Joel,
When you say “half dry box, half cooler” what do you mean exactly? Couldn’t you simply find a cooler to fit snugly inside the dry box?
I work for the Outdoor Pursuit Center on campus and I think what we have may be what you’re talking about. If you provide a little more info I’ll check ours out and get back to you.

I can offer a couple of suggestions. Not sure if you had your sights set on a certain region, but for starters there’s the Allegheny National Forest in North West PA. Quite a few options there, including wild brookies.
Of course there’s GSMNP, endless options there and lots of resources for planning a trip.
Also, have not been there personally but Shenandoah National Park is supposed to have some outstsanding brookie fishing.

I would say it depends on where/when you’re fishing. I recently switched to studded aquastealth and love it. I believe it outperforms felt when hiking through mud or other slick surfaces. Grips very well on hard bottom also. They’re especially valuable when there’s a layer of snow on the ground, because snow does not stick to the bottoms like it does with felt.
That said, I think they can be damaging to most drift boat floors. You may want to hang on to your felt boots for that purpose.

On the Redington note, I’ve also had excellent experience with their customer service department. That’s more than I can say for at least one of the other big name American Rodmakers.

Great info from people who know the park as well as anybody. Also, don’t hesitate to give them a call at the shop in Townsend. Some of the friendliest folks you will ever speak with.
I was down for a few days around the same time last year. A few Quill Gordons and lot’s of BWO’s. The fish, surprisingly enough, seemed to be looking for the smaller bugs. Hope this helps.

You are in for a real, real treat. I spent a month trekking NZ last May and it is everything that you’d imagine. My plan is to return for 3-6 months of nothing but fishing after graduation.

Probably a good idea to stay away from PA. Dealing with that many guys on the river can be a frustrating experience.
With regard to the Ohio tribs, if we don’t get any heavy rains this week, most if not all will be at fishable levels. That should help a great deal in spreading the crowds out. You will certainly be able to find some open water, especially if you are willing to do a little hiking from an access point.

Just A ring she’s wearing there, not THE ring. As of now I’m still fishing on the weekends…
As for getting the fish to model, that was a nice spot because I could keep him submerged and breathing but still have him laying down. I also tried to cover his eyes which I read somewhere helps?

I just picked up a Beulah 10’6″ 8 wt. switch rod this fall, also a med-fast. I have the 400 grain rio skagit on there now, and it turns over very well at short to medium ranges. Haven’t had to cast much farther than 50 ft. as of yet. I am a novice to spey but haven’t had any trouble casting with this setup.
As was mentioned before, other lines are probably better suited for multi-app use. Check out Beulah’s elixr series.
