I’m kind late to the party, but thanks again for coming up Zach. I had a blast.
    Joe,
We were fishing some sparse white streamers and bright nymphs. The arkansas bead head or crystal minnow then dropping pheasant tail nymphs or other golden colored nymphs. There were actually some mayflies on top, but couldn’t get any takers. It certainly wasn’t for lack of effort.

I use a 6wt floating line for lighter flies and shallow water and a 7wt sink tip for heavy flies and deep water.

Congrats on publishing your book. Those are three of Gods greatest gifts! Sounds like a fun read. To bad the setting is Alabama and not Arkansas! Go Hogs!

    Eric,
Thanks a bunch. I fished the Elk last season as well and it is a beautiful river. What shrimp pattern do you use? That is interesting. I have primarily used eggs, caddis flies, stones, and copper johns when nymphing up there.
    Thanks

    John,
I start foaming at the mouth thinking about Arkansas small mouth fishing. As Dan stated, the Buffalo can turn into a cluster bomb in the summer. Dave Whitlock told me that the best part about fishing on the Buffalo is that if you position yourself correctly you can walk off the water with a half case of beer.

    Eric,
That looks awesome. I live in Cincinnati and will be heading up there several weekends in March and April. Moved up to Cincinnati a few years back and just found out about the steelhead run last year. Spent several days on the Grand last season, but didn’t catch a lot of fish. Which river were you fishing?

Sounds great. Thanks you all the replies. Looks like there are many good options.

Do most people stick with 30# Dacron for their tarpon reel or switch to 50# Gel spun backing? Obviously the Gel Spun has a smaller diameter and is rated stronger, but are there any other advantages/disadvantages.
    Thanks

    Michael,
I fished with Maui Jims for many years, but recently got a pair of 580G costas with green lens and have seen a tremendous difference with the costas.
