    Thanks for the input guys

Colin: as for the destination it can be anywhere really. I know the crew has gone from Canada to South America. It would just depend on the group choice.. however im sure we are talking more money for fuel the further so maybe a higher cost the further away.

Aaron: you are correct it is a very distinct niche. Here is my thinking… above all other anglers, Fly fishing usually does have the most disposable income, expecially the fly fisherman that is already traveling to far off distances. I also thought that (and this is all just my thoughts.. no real proof to back it up) the marrage of fly fishing and ‘History Buff’ would be a harmonous one considering fly fishermen and fly fishing in general have close ties to tradition and nastalgic ways. (I bet nastalgic is spelt wrong, and $20 bucks says Dusty Montgomery corrects me on it)

The small niche isnt a problem because this isnt a mass recruitment effort. They have had small pretty particuler group come through.

I just thought it was a fun idea and if it worked I would probably get to tag along…. selfish i know, but so worth it

I really enjoy going to Broken Bow. It’s kinda what I consider my home stream because thats where Dusty taught me how to fish. I always enjoy the area too. I always stay at the Hochatown Inn, and they are always helpful and friendly at the Three Rivers Fly Shop. Here are a few pictures from my last trip in December.

It was a chilly and the banks were frozen over!

Oh yea.. KA is thick through Texas. UT, tech, SMU, WTAMU, SFA, A&M, UTD and Texas State all have chapters. The Triple KA chapters are a little bit harder to find these day. We had an authentic 8 lbs cannon that when fired one time blew out all the windows within 200 yards. Unfortunetly, right after i went alumni, the MSU Chapter was suspended for 3 years for partying to hard. 2 more years and we’ll be back on top.

Eric, please tell me mine were better than the boys. haha

You know whats funny, its been my experience fishing, I would go buy some flys with no luck and he would probably be slaying them on his creations.

AS I recall Dusty, I passed you class with only a little bit of help. Its not like I couldnt do the work, i just had a problem with the whole ‘attendance’ part. But how many of those ‘A’ students were there for you when you needed a dip.

P.S I whooped him when he challenged me to a wrestling match. Speaking of redneck, going to a pig roast and having it turn into WWE.. thats pretty redneck.

edit: i hope you asked for free hemostats while in the hospital. and spare IV tubing for tube flies!

MAN! I didnt even think about that. Oh well, i am sure I’ll be back in tomorrow for another blood transfusion. You think for what they are charging that stuff would be included.

Wow, that reminds me of my life.  Where did you pick up the nifty Confederate uniforms?  I think I’ll wear one to my next Mil Ball.  That’ll go over like a turd in a punch bowl.

HAHA. Those uniforms are a long standing tradition in my fraternity. Every year we had a weeklong party called Old South. The last night is the ball and we all were Confederate Uniforms and the dates wear the old southern bell dresses.

Ask Dusty Montgomery. He had the privledge of attending an Old South one year.

Thanks guys. I have not read any books or watched any videos, but I checked out the website… great stuff. I was just looking through my flys I bought and trying to duplicate. I agree on the tail, after i took the pictures i tried trimming them down but it just doesnt look right. Keep the tips coming.

P.S. I am very dissappointed in the lack of ridicule from this, i really expected the IT crowd to let me have it!

ALRIGHT! Finally something I can talk about. Usually yall are talking about technical stuff way over my head. I had to get in on this! I was looking through my pictures trying to find the best one, but i just had to many redneck pictures. Check these out.

We were dove hunting a couple of months back and landed like 6 in a row in the tank. Being the redneck I am I didnt want to waste some good eaten.

This is my buddy Matt that I was hunting with. I am pretty sure this picture is in the dictionary next to ‘redneck’ (he had a bad fourwheeler accident this summer and it turned him into this beautiful redneck specimen)

DONT ASK! (thats me on the right)

Me and the boys out in the middle of nowhere. If the bottle of ‘Riot Punch’ doesn’t say good time, I dont know what does.

Us at the Ball at the end of the annual Old South week.

This is actually at my ex-girlfriends sorority mixer, And believe it or not I broke up with her. Plus, if you look real close, I had a mullet at the time.

Hope yall enjoyed. If you ever want to really experience redneck to its finest give me a holler, I already have the riot punch chilled.

    HEY HEY,
I am back, got the batteries recharged and ready to start year 5 1/2 of college. The Weather and landscape were a nice break from the miserable North Texas heat and scenery. Fishing was good.. at the end of the week. I had the toughest time fishing the Cimarron. It was more narrow and shallow than I am used too. I was using a 9ft and most of the deeper running areas couldnt have been more than 10 – 12ft wide. A lot of tree’s and brush made even roll casting hard. I know a lot of you told me not to go, but I was up there with some friends and thats where they wanted to go. But wait it gets worse… they were bait casters. (pause for boo’s and hisses) In their defense, they had a free cabin, so let’s leave it at that. Back to fishing, I took all of yalls advise and tried it all. I even printed most of yalls post off and put it in my pack for refrence. The folks at Dos Amigo’s shop were great. They had everything I needed. The Tricos went off like clock work around 10 – 10:30am. I am new to dry flying and need some work, but I was casting well and putting it right on them and nothing was biting. I was watching them roll to the left and right of me but couldnt get anything. Cimarron Special #14 and #16 got nothing either. I finally landed a few nymphing and they seemed to be hitting the smaller disco and zebra midges. Nothing more than 2 or 3 a day for the first couple of days.I should have just gotten a guide, but it was a little more money than I was wanting to spend. So finally the last couple of days, I just cleared my mind and tried to do the simplest thing possible, so I broke out the wooly bugger. You would not believe the success I had. I would find a deep run and just twitch it back up stream and I couldn’t real them in fast enough. I started catching much better quality fish too. I think the smallest I caught on the wooly bugger was probably a 14 inch. Had a lot of success in the ponds over in Red River with the wooly bugger too. Big fish, in the pond I was pulling 16 to 18 inches every time. Dusty called towards the end of my trip and suggested an ‘adventure’, I wish i could have made the hike, but I was WAY to hung over. All in all it was a good trip. Made me realize i still have a lot to learn. Also, I broke my rod, it was a three rivers rod from cabelas, (don’t laugh) but it was my best rod. So Dusty, I hope you still have some of those used rods your looking to pawn off. I think cabelas might actually guarantee the rod, but it was probably time to step up anyways.

Dusty, I am still not sure on the trip this weekend. I would like to go but the Toadies Concert is on friday night and I got a hot date. I spent a lot of money on this last one and should probably save for a week or so, but then again when have I ever made good decisions. I really want to go but I’ll let you know by wednesday night.

I sure I forgot something in my report, so just ask me if you want to know anything else. Also, I am about to try and post some pictures but I really need to reduce the size. Dont want to make Zack mad. Thanks again everyone for all of your advise and interest.

I appreciate the advice! I’ll have you know that I have a perfect driving record, but I’d be a fool to risk it. I might try some of the local spots. A cabin full of dudes can be fun for a while, but we might have to see if we can find some warm bodies to invite to the cabin. There we go, two birds one stone.

As for the beer I owe Juan, its going to be kind of hard to mail. But I should get you some Lone Star, Shiner, or Zeigenbach. Put a little Texas flair in you.

Usually once I leave Texas I don’t really speed a whole lot so we will be okay there, but thanks for the heads up.

Thanks again guys. I have emailed both guides. They both sound amazing and are priced relatively the same. I am just waiting to hear back from both to see if they have any openings next week. I know it is short notice, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Either way I will surely visit both shops.

Next question! Does anybody know of any good bars or night life going on in eagles nest. A young bachelor as myself has to occupy his evenings with some for of entertainment!

    Cole,

I took just a few pictures with my phone. They are not great pictures, but a few good looking stockers. I was especially proud of the one i took while reeling. Enjoy.
