MemberScott – Was it fishing in the subject line that brought you in to the thread or Carrie Underwood? 😉
Tim Hawkins is really funny. My kids love this:

MemberKevin – I’m in the same boat… at the time of purchase didn’t know they existed. The pants would have been nice for backcountry fly fishing. Every ounce I get out of my pack is worth it!

MemberThanks for the comments! For anyone interested in the details, I finished up my narrative on the trip and posted it on my blog here: http://minomdeplume.wordpress.com/2008/08/09/200807_rmnp_backcountry_trip/

MemberI’d second the Henry Shires’ Tarptent. If you are looking for a palace check out the three person Rainshadow2. Ron Moak also makes a nice and roomy two person tent call the Lunar Duo. Both are super light shelters. These guy’s have awesome customer service and reputations.

Memberwhoa! great story…

MemberThanks for the feedback! Much appreciated.
Sounds like fishing may be tough and wading at beaver is out. My local fly shop says roaring river is fishing well. Perhaps we should drive up for a day and give this a try and only boat fish the beaver tailwater for a day. This will be my 10 year old’s first time trout fishing on the fly so I want him to “catch the fly fishing bug”. Hopefully the tailwater level will continue dropping as table rock lake is drained a bit…
Scott – I checked out your website. Nice! Looks like a great resource.

MemberYup, Granite Gear makes some good stuff! Very comfy I hear… I’d toss in Six Moon Designs packs as well.

MemberWell I’ve returned from my trip to Colorado. We fished on South Boulder Creek west of Pinecliffe, Colorado (~9500 feet). Given the forecast, I decided to pick up a pair of Simms Rivertek Grid Fleece pants to wear under the waders – paired with merino wool socks. I’m glad I did as it snowed all day long! The temps were just below freezing all day but the fishing was awesome! On top, I wore a light polypro baselayer, a merino wool pullover, a Patagonia micropuff, and a rain jacket. It was a perfect system – no cold spots, no sweating.

MemberThanks everyone for the great suggestions!
I was really at a loss as to how to approach this. A colleague and I are getting guided on a one day trip on October 14th. Unfortunately, the rest of the time is booked with business. :'(

MemberThanks everyone! Good points and suggestions. I’ll try and reattach the line. I do not really have anything to lose. If it does not work out I think the idea of using longer leaders makes good sense.
So Bob, I think I follow everything you suggest up until the nail knots. I’m trying to figure out 1) what to use to nail knot over the spliced area and 2) how to use two nail knots to “secure the line”. Perhaps some backing or mono? And should the two nail knots somehow be structurally attached to one another (e.g. their tag ends threaded through each other)?
