MemberI wondered if I should start another thread .. but then I figured everyone like pictures of fish. So, why not!?! 😉
I made a quick trip up to the Tri Basin Divide in Wyoming this last weekend with a friend. The mission was to track down some colorado cutts. For me, this trip was just on the edge of a day trip at 4hrs each way. We headed out at 6am and got home about 11:45pm.
The day had some ups and downs, but overall it was good day. The upside was that some nice colorado and snake river cutties were caught! The down side is that we ran into some diseased fish that were not in good shape. We have a call into fish and game to see whats up…
Overlooking a section of the creek we fished.

The scenery was amazing on this trip. Passed a local rancher on the way back to the truck.

This little guy was colored up beautifully.

MemberAll of the pics are great, but I especially like #1! Â Wyoming and the Tetons hold a very special place in my heart (as for many I am sure). Â Where in general is the tri basin divide?

noneMemberLovely pics!
For these small cute cutts you’ll probably need a light short rod to get maximum fun?

MemberJohn: The Tri Basin Divide is at top of the Colorado River basin, the Great Basin, or the Columbia River Basin. From there the Smiths Fork flows down south west into the Bear river (Bonniville cutts), Labarge Creek flows south to the Green River (Colorado cutts), and the Greys flows northwest to the Snake (SR Cutts). Here is a link on google maps to the tri basin divide ( http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=Lu3&pwst=1&resnum=0&q=wyoming+tri+basin+divide&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&resnum=1&ct=title ). I have been going to the area for close to 25 years and was lucky enough to have fly fished here with both my father and grand father. Its a truly amazing place with tons and tons of water to explore.
Here is a shot from fairly close to the top of the Greys. This is the highest I have fished. So far …

Jay: I fished with a 8′ 4wt and my buddy fished his 7’6″ 3wt. I have a 1wt being built by a local rod maker, but it looks like it will be a toy for next year. Which is ok, because I’d have to buy a reel and line to go with it. lol.
Darrin: Thanks! For me, that fish was the best of the entire trip! A stunner!

Thought I’d update this thread … My buddy finally heard back from fish and game in WY. Here is the reply and a link to a couple of pics if you wanted to see them. It was a bit shocking at the time to catch them, but i am glad they are “part of the program”.. Doubt I’d eat one .. smoked or otherwise.
