Some of my friends (the Campbells and Carter McLeod, who posts here) went up to the Big Horn last summer, and that stuff is all the rage up there.
I rely on Network Solutions for server hosting, and like any outfit they have their good days and bad.
A while back I added some statistics software that lets me see where people link to here from – very useful for tracking impact and finding out who has beem pirating my photos.

You can always get to IE this way:
1) Log on to AOL and minimize the window.
2) Go to Start/Run
3) Type “iexplore” (no quotes)
4) Hit enter.That will work.

(Joking aside, spey casting is slightly different and is an area where a well-balanced reel will help out.

Yes.
Unless you are physically handicapped, there is no reason an ordinary person could not cast a fly rod with or without any reel. I never consider whether a reel balances a rod. The manufacturers have already done that. Having a rod out of balance has less than a 5% effect on a caster’s skill and, unless the rod is particularly meaty, on fatigue.
This is a tempest in a teacup.

One more that came up in the flyshop tonight: wine bottle holders often fit rod tubes.

Hey Frank-
I am just going to use untreated pine and sand it smooth and stain and varnish it. I don’t have the tools to make a really nice looking cabinetry-style piece of work (i.e. no router, brad nailer may be a problem, no planer or biscuit cutter for sure). One day I hope to set up a shop in my house – I have lots of furniture ideas and occasionally I manage to pull them off.
The bottom is simply going to be a shelf with a 1×4 facing on it, with another 1×4 “minishelf” attached to the bottom of the facing and sticking out, then with a piece of trim or ripped 1×4 on the front of the minishelf facing upward to catch the rod butts. Here’s a schematic:
The net holder was a last minute idea, since I am currently hanging my net from a picture frame.
That is because the rod is still loaded and unloaded, three-dimensionally, the same way, it’s just that the *butt* of the rod is tracking a circle in the elliptical cast instead of a straight line.
