Nice. I have that exact motor on my 13′ Gheenoe. I love it.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Sounds like the right motor to outfit my little boat with.

It’s funny that they monitor that while Omega is slaying the menhaden stocks off the coast unregulated. There won’t be any sustainability without the most important baitfish in the bay.

Awesome looking boat! I recently got a 13 foot highsider I want to do something very similar to.

How has that B&S outboard performed for you so far? I’ve been looking at them pretty hard, Mercury’s are way out of my price range.

I was at the upper Jackson a couple weeks ago and it was horribly low. I had to go fish Plan B after driving all the way up there. This time of year I can imagine it seeming pretty barren. There are plenty of wild rainbows and some wild browns with additional stockers poured on top of them by the state.

Trout fishing in the Mid-Atlantic is great. You just have to immerse yourself in it. Spend the time learning the streams listed, you will eventually get into some quality fish. There is absolutely a learning curve though for each stream, especially this time of year.

The best thing about trout is the technical aspect. Once you figure it out, it’s like a light bulb going off.

We haven’t gotten any significant rainfall since early summer. I have been avoiding fishing the park for a little while now. It sometimes amazes me that those little guys are able to make it up there. Especially on the west slope.

That’s the way the park looks this time of year pretty much every year. Come back in spring, you’ll be amazed.

Don’t worry, White Oak has plenty more trout than that. You just have to go past the parking lot pool.

    To be on topic:

5 minutes to the James River for smallmouth, largemouth, 3 types of catfish, stripers, and shad.

15 minutes to a couple farm ponds I regularly fish.

20 minutes to a pair of small rivers I fish for smallmouth/ largemouth/ spotted bass.

Anywhere from 1-2 hours to get into some saltwater species.

Tons of native brookies and a couple spring creeks within 1.5- 2 hours

The Jackson was to be a blue ribbon tail water, but that is gone for now.  The question is will this issue show up on the Watauga or South Holston?

It is blue ribbon all the way. The only thing is now you can fish the 3/4 mile stretch the state owns or knock and ask. According to VDGIF fisheries biologist Paul Bugas, Allegheny county is about to start work on a path along the lower tailwater, downstream of the King’s Grant section. This will open up legal access to the river for recreational use, including fishing.

I do most of my trout fishing in SNP and am quite familiar with the waters. I’ve been up there quite a bit recently and the water level are horrible. Hopefully we’ll get some rain before you come.

Shoot me a pm if you want some suggestions. Murray’s book is alright but some of the stream information is quite general or outdated in the case of a couple of those waters.

Those Mossy browns are ugly anyway.

It takes some time to learn to fish it, the BIG boys in there don’t rise for anything during the day and night fishing is illegal.
