Tim AngeliMemberHave fun Joel!
Tim AngeliMemberJarrad,
There is already a lot of really good input here. I think a 6 versus 7 weight is personal preference. An ideal rod for you would be the Orvis Helios since you seem to want something that is as light as possible. I recently cast the 907-4 and came to the conclusion that that thing is just plain ridiculous. It’s an absolute cannon and feels more like a 4 wt. in hand than a 7 wt. The obvious problem is that it’s about double the price of the other rods you expressed interest in.
I’ve personally done a lot of streamer fishing with a St. Croix Legend Ultra 9′ 7wt. overlined with a 350gr sink tip. It’s a great rod and can throw BIG streamers on big water all day. The one downside based on what you are interested in is that it’s not particularly light. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for what you’re looking at using it for though, depending on how set you are on the lightness of the rod. I personally feel that the Legend Ultra and Legend Elite are some of the best deals available.
Some people have already brought this up, but it’s worth re-iterating. Full sinking lines are great for streamer fishing from a boat, but aren’t ideal for wade fishing since the line will sink at your feet. You can get around this by coiling the line in your hand as you strip it in or by using a stripping basket, but for many people it’s a lot more convenient to use a sink tip line with a floating running line. Eric also made a great suggestion of getting some T-8, T-11, T-14, or T-17 and cut it to various lengths to create your own “custom” sink tip.

Tim AngeliMemberGreat stuff Lee.
Tim AngeliMemberSounds like a really good trip.
Tim AngeliMemberI like my net stuffed into the waistband.
I definitely agree.
Tim AngeliMemberThat is absolutely awesome!
Tim AngeliMemberI’ve actually heard of Estancia del Zorro in some magazine or online publication.
Tim AngeliMembershoot a few feet of line on the backcast
Eric, that’s a great tip. I was taught that a little while back from an excellent caster while casting for distance. It really helps to throw some extra line, and although I’ve never fished in the salt, I imagine it would be perfect to add a little punch in those wind conditions. Awesome photos too, by the way!

Tim AngeliMemberNeal,
Great looking fly!
Tim AngeliMemberThumbs Up
Fishpond (http://www.fishpondusa.com/) – Easy to navigate and great photography.Simms (http://www.simmsfishing.com/) – Easy to navigate, good layout, nice features (product info, photos, videos, etc).
Major Thumbs Down
Lamson-Waterworks (http://waterworks-lamson.com) – I’ll reiterate what Zach already said: for a company that is producing such good products, their website is down-right disgraceful.-Tim
Tim AngeliMemberGreat looking fly Clark.
Tim AngeliMemberGood stuff Matt!

Tim AngeliMemberCool stuff Zach.
Tim AngeliMemberDo you think the slogan should be removed from the front?
I think the slogan should stay.
Tim AngeliMemberDavid,
I didn’t get your reply on here until after I had gotten home from the show.
Tim AngeliMemberI think both graphics should be moved down slightly on the shirt. That’s just constructive criticism and that being said, I really like both colors and would purchase one of both.

Tim AngeliMemberWOW!! Those are awesome.

Tim AngeliMemberJuan,
I agree; great pattern for everything from a salmonfly to an august hopper! I’ll take 2 dozen. 😉
What do you use for the wing material in the newer version? MFC Widow Web? What exactly is that? It looks really good and easier to incorporate than the deer hair.

Tim AngeliMemberDave,
I’m technically a Wolverine fan (after contributing thousands of dollars and YEARS of my education there), but I’ll cheer on the Spartans for the Big Ten title since I grew up in East Lansing and have a brother that is contributing his tuition there. However, they already have it rapped up so I’m opting to go to the show to cast some new rods and see how I can blow some more money. Hopefully Manny and my boys will crack into the bubble on Sunday.
I’ll be looking to pick up a few select fly tying techniques and materials but mostly trying to pick up on the new trends in equipment (I’m looking for a good streamer rod and reel). I’m hoping the casting pool isn’t too busy throughout the day on Saturday afternoon. Let me know where you’ll be or what you’ll be wearing and maybe we can meet up and talk some fishing.
Tim AngeliMemberI really like that fly. It’s simple and yet very realistic. Reminds me a lot of Charlie Craven’s Charlie Boy Hopper except I think I like yours better. Nice pattern!
