I have dialup internet, and for the most part, the site loads normal. The only problem I have is on posts that have photos, especially the ones with 10 photos or more. If I don’t feel like waiting for them all to load, I’m sort of screwed. Even if I hit stop in the browser, the photos continue to load, which prevents me from bringing up other pages, navigating back to the previous page, etc. until the photos are done. This must be a Java script thing, because this happens on other pages as well. I just need to finally break down and get Roadrunner……

That sucks about the tube – Who sells a rod, especially a high end rod like an XP without the tube? What did the guy do, prop it up in the corner when not using it?

Anyways, Madison River Fishing Co. (http://www.mrfc.com) sells stock Sage Aluminum Tubes. More than likely as with your situation with Sage, the tube will probably not be the one that matches the XP. However, they sell them for $40 for a 2 pc rod and $50 for a 4 pc rod. The ones shown are tan with brown lettering. It might save you a few bucks at least. Cabelas also has some decent aluminum rod tubes for about $30…..

JC seems to be on a roll for blasting folks who don’t agree with his opinion or those of his sponsors. I used to be a member, and pretty much that site has gone downhill and been extremely hostile since about this time last year with the whole FAOL vs. The Drake saga (I’m sure some of you know what I mean….). Warranties are the thing that will set him off instantly. Not sure why that is…..Did he make rods himself at one time or perhaps work in the Warranty Claim department of a rod company and just could not take it anymore? Bizarre…..

Anyway, the warranty is the whole reason for buying a premium rod. If this were not true, we would all probably be fishing Eagle Claw fiberglass rods found for $20 at Walmart. Now I don’t own the highest end Sage or Scott (Launch & A2 3wts respectively for me), but the warranty gives me confidence when I buy. I have never broken a rod (knock on wood), but I don’t live in fear of doing so because I have that warranty. It is nice to not have to be afraid of using a rod for fear of breaking it. They were meant to be fished.

While I do not necessarily agree with the fee for replacement due to breakage, I guess that is fair. Like Steve said, it is no different than and insurance policy on a car really – just a deductible for your mistake. I guess I like to think of it this way: Say I were fishing a rod that has no warranty whatsoever, which probably fetches a price of about $50, give or take. If I break that rod, I’ll probably suck it up and go buy another one of that mediocre $50 rod. However, if I break the tip on my favorite Sage, I’ll gladly pay $40 to have a rod I really like fixed versus forking over $50 for a new mediocre rod that is just ok.

Lately I’ve had trouble finding a fly line I really liked, but recently I picked up a SA XPS 3wt line and really like it. Floats well, casts great and stays slick for a long time. I think I’ve used it for 6 months now and cleaned it 3 times. I prefer the Grey color myself……

I have also used Cabela’s Prestige Plus lines and have been happy with them for the price. Looks like they are closing some of them out now for about $25.

Zach – Sounds good. I think your closing comment states exactly what fly fishing needs – companies that are run by and trying to gear themselves more toward a younger crowd. Anything to stimulate interest in the sport and bring it to more people is a good thing.

I am really interested to find out about new models of the Scott G2 – I really want to buy one, but can’t find one in a length yet that I really am happy with. Maybe I just need some more time casting them though. For now my A2 will have to do….

Absolutely – I’ve done the same thing in the past. I used to have this one reel that perfectly balanced a short 2wt rod I had, but had a very small capacity. This probably would be best saved for smaller line weights, since you rarely cast more than 25-30 feet anyway, so you do not have to worry about getting into the backing on a cast. The only real problem with doing this is having enough room to spread the line out so you make sure you get an even cut. The best place to do it is outside and try to get someone to help you. The first time I did this I ended up with a big tangled mess on the floor that took about 3 hours to unknot…..not fun. Just make sure you put enough backing on to fill the spool and prevent line coil.
