MemberJoe…legit question. I’ve had waaaay too many basal cell skin cancers removed. My doc says the damage was done 20 years ago and is just now surfacing. I’m not sure why other outdoor folk don’t cover up….especially bass fishermen.
I’ve had three removed so far and another four to go. The one on the forehead was less than 1/4″ when detected and they took out 1-1/2″. Two months to heal. Bottom line here is cover up.

MemberHi gang,
Well, I finally did it. Bamboo. Where has this been all my life?

After the rod arrived, I re-watched “Trout Grass”. A bamboo rod really is a special thing.
My first cast caught a fish, but the first fish did not appreciate the significance of the moment and would not hold still for a photo with the rod in the background. Fish in left hand; camera in right hand; ready . . . aim . . . squirm:

If you are interested, I have a few more photos and a short write-up about the experience here:

Cheers,
TimWelcome to the Dark Side. In case you didn’t know, this is not good. Enjoy…….

MemberThis is actually pretty good news. My wife and I have fished that stretch a few times. Wow, what a difference though. We leave again on the 21st but for the Alder area. A side trip may be in order. Thanks!

MemberGood thread. I just had a Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head to break. It’s not a year old and the Ball is cracked. Anyone ever send one back?

MemberWelcome to the board Mr. Guselli! Doug, you sir are in good hands.
Good to see you here Ray….

MemberThe modern day version of Zach’s recommendation would be a 055prob tripod and a 494 ball head with RC2 plate. Solid stuff that is not to heavy, will not break the bank and is rugged enough to be abused.
I have these legs with the 488RC2. Look around for a package deal on either. They should serve you well.

MemberI said it the first time and I will say it again. A water proof glove for fly fishing that is light enough you can “feel” and has a neoprene cuff that is tight enough you can release fish without ever taking it off and your hand will stay dry.

MemberZach you did good! The reel is probably worth $100.00, especially with the silk line. I don’t know how bad the line is but if you’re interested, here is some advice about bringing it back to life.
http://www.overmywaders.com/index.php?cleaningsilkRegarding the reel, should the seat not fit your bamboo, as has been mentioned, these folks offer a seat for it. http://www.onepfoot.com/
As you probably know, the reel is set up for RHW. Hopefully this is okay with you. It can be changed but would be a shame to do it. I’m with you, leave the looks as they are and enjoy it.
Good Luck with it,
RolfRolf Jacobsen
MemberLet my wife fish with it for two weeks.
