This is absolutely true. A cell phone manufacturer we work with did a test with two models of phone (one low end model one high end) with the same vocoder in it. The more expensive model got higher voice quality marks in the testing even though the entire signal path was exactly the same.
Mike, I have a Canon 4400f that’s a year old. It’s a flatbed type scanner but it’s also got a film holder built in the lid and back-lights the negative or slides while it gets scanned. I also have two spare film holders that will help speed your work up a little if you have a lot you’re trying to scan. $70 shipped to you if you want it. carter(dot)simcoe(at)gmail(dot)com

I took out the luggage scale (accurate to a 10th) and did some comparisons with what I had lying around.

I think relative boot weight is a matter of how far you’ll be hiking. If you’re fishing a tailwater or fishing out of a boat, it’s immaterial. If you’re hiking 3 miles in before you start fishing, and wading three miles of stream from there, you’re going to want the lightest boot possible. I’ve done both; my boots were never a factor in Arkansas but in the Appalachians they are a big factor indeed.

I do a lot of walking when I fish. Some on trails some not. I’ve put thousands of miles in hiking boots over the years and both of these boots seem lighter than my hiking boots. They are definitely lighter than the boots I use for ice climbing (my leather Sportivas not plastic mountaineering boots – and again, a lot of tough walking in these – several summits of Mount Washington in winter etc.). I guess it is all relative, but I just don’t find the G4s all that heavy. I admit this is all anecdotal. I’ll have to do some real comparisons this weekend. 🙂

We got one of the tick removal tools from the vet for our dog. It really works. Gets the head every single time. Will work on humans too. Up here we are in tick heaven. We Frontline our dog out of necessity. It is probably taking a year off of her life, but she is worry free in the summer because of it.
Hemo’s probably won’t be sharp enough at the tip to guarantee you will get the head.
