    Guys,

    I have a 3 wt 7’6″ Winston that I inherited from my father-in-law.

There are 2 options on the reel.

    Mike’s given you good advise.

I’ve had a 3wt for small streams for a couple of years now.

I use a Ross Evolution 1 on my Sage TXL 7’6 3wt with a Sage double taper. It has worked flawlessly so far.

I have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to small streams, but when I was in the Smokies I used an SA Mastery XPS 3wt with a Lamson Radius 1.5 on a Tiger Eye 7’6″ 3wt rod, and it worked out very well.

Probably depends on budget – if I had unlimited funds, a Hardy Perfect.

    Dave,

I just purchased an Able Creek LA #2 and love it!! For 300 bucks it looks sweet on both my Winston’s, balances perfectly with both the 4 and 5 wt and will last a lifetime. I would go with the Able Creek LA#1 for a perfect small stream setup IMO!!!

As far as line selection I would go with Rio Selective Trout II or a Wulff Triangle Taper. Small stream and delicate presentation fits the bill!!!

Another good source for any Winston info is the forum site on the Winston web site.

    Hi Dave,

I am with Mike on the Sage Click III in fact I think I may have had a slight influence on him buying his  🙂  As for lines, have a look at the Sage QDT II as well but as suggested go and try a couple and see what works.

Here are a couple of pics of the Sage Click:

I use a tiny ross reel. The name/model slips my mind. It is probably the size of a chips ahoy cookie.

There is Orvis 2wt wonder line on it.

Caught a 19″ rainbow out of big hunting creek in Md.
That was an unexpected catch in a small stream.

It is lighter than my orvis battenkil 3/4 direct drag

I have several light rods and have experimented with several brands and models of smaller reels.
