No teeth on a lady fish so there is really no use in a bit tippet in my experience. But there is a good shot a spanish or blues running in the mix depending on where you are fishing. I like a 25# mono bite tippet and it seems to do fine for both blues and spanish so long as I keep it changed out.
I like to take a standard 9ft. tapered leader and then tie a perfection knot at the end. Then take a foot long piece of heavy mono with a perfection loop at the end and loop to loop em’. This way I can change out bite tippets fast and change over to say 30-35 pound mono as needed. This keeps those toothy critters from targeting the leader and biting it.
Just an idea, works for me. Might be worth trying.
I find that for fishing solo in fast running water a kayak is the way to go. I have been using them to fish in fast rivers for years.

http://www.warmfly.com/smf/index.php?topic=460.0They have alot of great patterns. I don’t put a rattle on mine because in my home rivers it is more like nymphing as it tumbles along the bottom. So I doubt they have time to care it it rattles.

Very nice. I sold my Native Ultimate 14.5 last Fall. Thinking about buying a 12 soon, but then again I do like the Heritage Featherlite 12.
Love the redfish man. Great to see somebody else out there enjoying the fun of warm water fly-fishing. I didn’t know you could stand in a redfish though it doesn’t surprise me, Heritage and Native make some awesome kayaks. If I were you I might have to tie up a deceiver to match the color of the local sunfish population.

I appreciate it. they are a really cool fish made for a six weight. What I like about them is that they can make a slow day in winter alot of fun. Plus they explode on a fly in the shallows even on the coldest days down here in Mobile.
After a couple of weeks of everything else being shut down you find new appreciation for these little guys.
A clouser will usually work. If they are there they are normally as apt to eat as a big blue gill. But then again I am no expert and I am sure they have their moods like any other fish.
I have to say they were also after krystal flash to tie in.
Either way, this too shall pass. It will be a trend for the rest of the summer then peter out to next to nothing.

I experienced this fad myself in full this afternoon. I went down to the bass pro to pick up some saddle hackle since the local fly shop is closed on Sunday and bass pro is just down the road.
Well I got in there and made my way through all the tourist on their way to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Pensacola, etc. and made my way to the fly shop in the back. Cool, normally it is a ghost town back there even though there is a pretty good supply of good tying supplies back there. Today however was different.
I got back there and there were a group of 30-40 year old women and their daughters back there and they were buying up all the hackle. Sad part was they did not even know what kind to buy! They were buying saddle hackle.
One woman asked me if I fly fished, when I told her that i did she remarked, “I bet you’re mad about us buying all your feathers aren’t you”.
I told her I really didn’t care and looked at her and said, “but it would be nice if you were smart enough to buy the right hackle for your hair.”
She just looked at me dumb founded and asked how I knew what the right kind of “feathers” were. I told her that it is easy enough just to look at what she has tied in her hair and look at what she had in her hand and see that they were different hackle.
They went ahead and purchased about $250 in hackle but asked the guy behind the counter if they would able to return them if they “didn’t work out”.
I walked out with the last pack of white saddle hackle in the store and shook my head at how stupid people can be, especially when they are just trying to keep up with a crowd.
Thanks Mike, that U40 was kinda what I had in mind. I am too much of a chicken to try the Scrubbing bubbles.
So how do I clean the cork before I add something like the U40 or try Zach’s advise?
Thanks Zach but I was kinda more looking to find a conditioner for the cork. Kinda give it some love. I haven’t had the problems you mentioned yet so I am hoping to avoid them. But I will keep these methods in mind.
hey Tim I was going to ask, I take a five gallon bucket and fill it half way up with HOT water and add a a couple of drops of original dawn to the water as it fills then I soak my line in the water for a few hours. After it soaks I use a patch of felt and reel the line through the felt pad. I repeat that part a couple of times then I empty the bucket and fill it half way up with cool clean water and let the line soak in it for a while before I reel it back on the spool.
Is that an ok way to go? I am using Saltwater Mastery line and then I will use a line treatment on it. Usually either Umpqua’s Glide or SA’s fly line dressing.
I hope that I am not damaging my line or that this advice I have given friends has not hurt their lines either.
