Here is a great video which details the issues of Lightroom 2.1 and Camera Raw. Pay attention to the first half in which they discuss the “conspiracy” about LR 2.1 not being compatible with the new Camera Raw 5.1 and CS4. According to the discussion, LR 2.1 has the same CR functionality as PSCS4.

Apparently LR uses a Camera Raw plugin as part of the application and you don’t have to download the individual camera files in order to calibrate your own profile.
I can’t help myself . . . some more shots with the 105VR macro lens from this weekend. Can you guess what college football game? This lens is starting to become a close friend.
Will – you were right, crack the egg and lots of goodies inside. Couldn’t believe at first, but the macro actually takes some decent sports action shots, albeit a bit soft on focus as expected. I also had the 18-200 VR with me but the shots below are all from 105.
What I really needed was one of these!
Then I went and had fun.

The Tibor Spey is probably one of the best looking reels I’ve seen in a while. If they made this color with the celtic scrolling in a 4- to 6-wt reel it would be on my rod already.

Lightroom 2.1 came out today and is supposed to specifically address the known issues with cameraw raw (raw) support. Download the upgrade and let us know if that helps.

Be careful, the Tibor bug bites hard!!!
Here’s my unofficial review of the Tibor Spring Creek. First, I love this reel, it is very well made and looks wonderful on any rod but especially small fiberglass or cane rods. Second, it is designed for smaller rods in the 2-4wt range and you should keep that in mind; I pair it with my Scott F 703/3 and my Z-axis 4wt. However, this is where things get a bit complicated and frustrating because unfortunately it does not fit perfectly in the Scott F cork reel seat. Cameron brought this to my attention when I first purchased the reel and sure enough a lot of fiberglass guys where initially excited about this reel but quickly returned or sold the product once they found it doesn’t pair well with the slide-ring type reel seats. However, it fits like a glove on any up-locking reel seat like the Z-axis for example. Because I love the reel so much I chose to keep it on my glass rod and have noticed a slight amount of scratching from the rings but I can live with that. Thirdly, the drag is different than what you might be used to – it is a side screw mechanism but the internals are great. Finally, some people would argue that an expensive reel like this should not be paired to a light weight spring creek rod because you are usually combat fishing and hiking and scratching your gear but I can tell you that mine has been through some tough spots and spills and still looks great without scratches. In fact, most people believe you should not spend more than $100 for a reel on a 2-4wt rod.

I have the barracuda junior trekker and it is a great vise. Same as the barracuda minus the fancy knobs. As you know from our previous discussions, I have tied big Slamma Jammas on 4/0 hooks without problems. Also, I have been very impressed with Dyna-King overall and their customer service is great. You can call them with any questions and they will answer spot on. I recommend buying a second “midge” vise grip for tying the small stuff – I am constantly swapping the regular jaws for midge jaws when my hook needs change. I recommend the barracuda or barracuda junior without reservations.

Don’t let Christine read this post, hahaha. As we discussed, the lenses are more important than the camera per se. The 105mm VR will work fine on your D70! If you are thinking of upgrading then go with the glass instead of the D300 IMHO. Also, the macro lens would allow you open access to some great fly tying shots like you want.
I think the 60mm Micro Nikkor is a better portrait lens on a cropped sensor body like the D70 or D300 since its focal length is more like 80-90mm.
Thought I would post some shots from the IA clave – I had a blast with the Nikon 105mm VR macro lens and here are some examples of both macro and non-macro applications with a macro lens. The versitility of macro lenses amazes me.
