I was in Wyoming weekend before last. I had intended to fish but a few days before I was going to leave I took a pretty good fall tearing the miniscus in my right knee so wading etc was out. My orthopedic surgeon gave me some stuff to get me through the trip and I’ll get my knee scoped in the next few weeks.
I rented a fairly large car and we cruised up from Laramie to Devil’s Tower and spent the afternoon on Saturday. I’ve been trying to get to the Tower for a long time and its a 5 hour drive from Laramie but its worth the trip.
The Tower is one of the most iconic rock climbs in the world and there were several teams of climber on various routes. Native americans consider the place a holy site and at various areas you will she prayers scarves and offerings in the trees. The place is magnetic and magic. there is a trail around the base that I hobbled around and took a few pictures with my point and shoot but you could spend years shooting this rock. As we left I noted a nice stream flowing through the park and on our way back to Sundance I saw what had to have been several hundred deer in a couple of farmers fields, pretty awesome for one day.
On Sunday my son and I cruised down to Rocky Mountain National Park. Coming up through the Thompson River Gorge and seeing several fly fisherman working this unique River was pretty cool. I don’t know how they got on the water, maybe they rappelled down to the river.
We entered the Park at Beaver Meadows saw a few Elk and took the Trail Ridge Road around the Park eventually reaching a altitude over 12000 feet before descending and leaving the park.
Both parks are clean and well maintained I wish I had more time to spend at both places to fish and photograph, if you get a chance go!
