MemberChad – the big dark brown is a tad on the large side, but the rest are fairly ‘typical’ for the waters from which they came. Out of 40+ fish this weekend, I’d guess 6 or 7 were less than 18″ in length.
I really dig the Patagonia waders. I purchased them based on the excellent reviews and customer service comments. Plus, I’ve been a Patagonia fan for life. I still have a mountaineering jacket and some long underwear I bought in high school that have been abused plenty and are still perfectly functional (31 years old). I had a little run-in with some barbed wire and did some self-repair, but otherwise haven’t had an issue with the waders. Since last January, I’ve put 85-90 days in this pair (don’t wear them much for summer fishing).
Rick – the rainbows this weekend came on little dries. The browns came on a variety of little nymphs. There just wasn’t enough of a hatch to get them up, so we had to go under. I just don’t streamer fish much… I find for every one I can get to eat a streamer, there are 5 or 6 of that size or better that will gladly eat a nymph (or dry fly for that matter). Either I’m lazy or just a glutton. ;D

MemberDon’t worry, I threw all the browns on the bank… or was it the other way around?

MemberMeh.
Haha, not even the browns?

MemberI too agree it’s not all doom and gloom. FYI, some of the ‘you should have seen it back when…’ crowd will complain about anything and everything.
Locally, we have two tailwaters that produce larger fish than they did 30 years ago. They are fishing better now than they ever did, according to many.
Pyramid Lake is another fishery that was truly a wonder of the angling world, then totally destroyed, and now is coming back strong. It fishes better than it did 20 years ago (or so I’m told by many) for size and quantity.
There are a lot of rivers and streams out there getting protection now, that were not afforded protection back in the 1970’s or even 1980’s.
So, while some fisheries are in decline, plenty are on the rebound or getting better!

MemberVery cool to see reports from a part of the country I’ve never visited.

MemberGreat ties and photos.
I’ve never fished a Thunder Creek, but have see people sing their praises.

MemberThanks, David.
Most my B/W images were shot with an old Pentax SLR and Ilford Delta B/W film. This is the case with the two I posted above.
There are probably a few in there that were digital and rendered in Photoshop with Chroma’s IR film filter. I’ll have to look and see if I have an example. It’s a great filter to duplicate IR film in the digital medium.
Luminarias are popular in the SW around Christmas time. It’s a Hispanic tradition. They’re typically candles in paper bags. The botanical gardens in Phoenix has a cool night-time display of them around the holidays with live music, beverages, etc. It’s kind of fun to walk around at night and see the desert foliage backlit by the candles and christmas lights in the trees.

Neal – yes, that is my archive. There’s all sorts of random stuff in there. As far as ‘punting around’, I mean that I just like to take photos; I’ve never done any formal training/education or been published (well, a photo in an AZ newspaper and one in an ID newspaper, but nothing serious). It’s fun stuff. I’ve still got a lot to learn! I’d like to do a little more fly fishing photography, but when I’m out fishing, I just can’t put down the rod… Most the photos I take fishing are just simple point and shoot snapshots.
Personally, my favorite subjects are Western landscapes and weather. If I had to pick two favorite photos I’ve shot over the years, it would be the following.

MemberNice views from camp

Many, many games of washers…I am not very good at washers…but if you want to we can put some money on it just for fun.
Oh crap, Krai is here. There goes the neighborhood! Haha.
That camp… seriously. Best base camp ever. 3+ lbs rainbows and smallies casting distance from the tent. What a damn good trip!

The view was pretty crappy too.

If I remember right, there was a fish on in this photo.

MemberI’ve been browsing around here for a year or two and decided I might as well join the fray.
2008 has been good so far, but some of the best months lay ahead.
At 131 days on the water this year, I’ve spent a lot of time behind the wheel, driving toward the horizon…

and saw a lot of beautiful country around the Western U.S.

I fished some big water and some small trickles…

and saw a bunch of bugs.

I harassed a lot of the locals.

And caught some fish in other destinations.

I hung out with some good friends.

With the help of Erich’s eagle eye, I even saw the Virgin Mary in a yellow zonker.

Yep, it’s been a pretty good year so far.
