I’m really just punting around with this stuff, but it’s been fun.

Micah, I enjoyed your photos very much.  Great shots.

    Is this your archive? http://photography.micahlauer.com/index.php?x=browse.

    Thanks for the comments, guys.

Neal – yes, that is my archive.  There’s all sorts of random stuff in there.  As far as ‘punting around’, I mean that I just like to take photos; I’ve never done any formal training/education or been published (well, a photo in an AZ newspaper and one in an ID newspaper, but nothing serious).  It’s fun stuff.  I’ve still got a lot to learn!  I’d like to do a little more fly fishing photography, but when I’m out fishing, I just can’t put down the rod…   Most the photos I take fishing are just simple point and shoot snapshots.

Personally, my favorite subjects are Western landscapes and weather.  If I had to pick two favorite photos I’ve shot over the years, it would be the following.

You really have a fine selective eye but your landscape compostions are really really good. Your BXW images are stunning. How did you do them? I really like Las Noches de las Luminarias Series. What is that all about.

    Thanks, David.

Most my B/W images were shot with an old Pentax SLR and Ilford Delta B/W film.  This is the case with the two I posted above.

There are probably a few in there that were digital and rendered in Photoshop with Chroma’s IR film filter.  I’ll have to look and see if I have an example.  It’s a great filter to duplicate IR film in the digital medium.

Luminarias are popular in the SW around Christmas time.  It’s a Hispanic tradition.  They’re typically candles in paper bags.  The botanical gardens in Phoenix has a cool night-time display of them around the holidays with live music, beverages, etc.  It’s kind of fun to walk around at night and see the desert foliage backlit by the candles and christmas lights in the trees.
