MemberNice selection of pics Neal.
Not sure about that last one though 😉 What would have made an interesting photo was how much gear Simon had in his bag after the Denver show!!

MemberFish and Fly is a favorite of mine as well. Am just about to subscribe to American Angler. Flylife the mag that Wet has mentioned is a great publication and Fly Angler is also worth reading if you are into saltwater. I also subscribe to fly fishing in saltwaters.
Unfortunatley the UK’s fly fishing publications leave alot to be desired. Fly fishing and Fly Tying and Salmon and trout are the only magazines I purchase here.

MemberI will be taking the 8,9 & 10 Helios down to Ascension Bay next month to test in the field. Will let you know how they go.
mat m
MemberHad a play with the Helios at the British fly fair over the weekend. The 10wt Helios is significantly lighter than the 10wt Zero G side by side. Never got to cast them unfortunately. The true test will be out in the field and how it handles big fish. I guess with the new Sage rods and Orvis range there can be no complaints about casting a 10wt all day at least!!

Flight to Christmas island are via Honolulu or Fiji (Nadi). I check the honolulu-CI flights the other day for a client and they are £300 return.

MemberCan’t beleive they let him into the country with that all blacks jumper. Did a word come out of his mouth that wasn’t to do with flyfishing? 😛 The man is possessed. How many bags of gear did he cart away from the show?
I hear he is having a ball up in Alaska.

MemberZach,
They are an Australian native species, Macquaria novemaculeata. Endemic to the eastern seaboard of Australia and their range stretches from southern queensland down to south eastern Victoria (about 2000km). They have had a hard time of it in their natural environment although alot has been done recently to help improve stocks. As Morsie says they migrate from the fresh water down to the estaurine environment to spawn and damming/weirs damaged stocks in some rivers. In queensland they are now stocked into lakes as and have really taken to these environments.
As you can see by the photos they love a big fly on the surface.

MemberHi Patrick,
Cost for 6 days/7 nights guided fishing including meals and transfers varies from USD1500-2000 depending on level of comfort you require. Flights from honolulu to CI are USD800.

MemberDave,
He tells me his TWIN in Oz is a better fisherman. Lets hope so :).
These streams are very affordable when it comes to chalkstreams over here. £30 outside of mayfly, £50 during. A mayfly hatch on one of these streams really is something else. We had enough water to fish for the whole day and didn’t fish all that was allocated in our beat. There were a few browns that were very circumspect and a little fussy but once you put a fly in front of them they hadn’t seen you could get them to eat.

MemberLots of sight fishing Si.
The grayling were in pods of 3 or 4 fish. We ended up with 5 grayling for the day with the biggest at around 47cm. That was the first grayling I have landed so was stoked. She came up for a little grey cdc. From what I have seen over here (my experience is limited to the Dorset chalkstreams is that they are very common and of good size). Mainly a winter fishery though. There is a closed season for them in the spring.

MemberHi all,
This is my first post. Simon pointed me in the direction of this thread so I thought I would contribute some more NZ images. I have been visting the site for a while now and really enjoy the photographic section. Have learnt alot from you guys so thanks. Anyway some more NZ dreams. I am based in the UK now and can’t wait to get back there. By the way great fish Ian.
Some fish
A silver trevally. These guys feed iin massive surface shoals on tiny krill. Fussy, tough and when you fool one fight like your typical trevally

A typical NZ brown. Beautiful wild fish

Yellowtail king. The meanest fish in the ocean

The hike in

Spring Creek

A cowboy in the backcountry

cheers
