I managed to get away from the computer for a day and out onto a chalkstream in Dorset (UK). Having spent the summer fishing NZ I was not expecting alot, however was pleasantly suprised by the beauty and wildness of the place……and the fishing was superb as well.

Thought I would share a few images

    Nice pics Mat
I bet a little 3 or 4 wt in there would have been fun!
Can you see the fish before casting or is it to the riseform and likely spots?

    Lots of sight fishing Si.

The grayling were in pods of 3 or 4 fish. We ended up with 5 grayling for the day with the biggest at around 47cm. That was the first grayling I have landed so was stoked. She came up for a little grey cdc. From what I have seen over here (my experience is limited to the Dorset chalkstreams is that they are very common and of good size). Mainly a winter fishery though. There is a closed season for them in the spring.

    Nice shots Mat..

Is it expensive to fish there ?
    What’s the pressure like ?

The fellow holding the brown looks VERY familiar, does he have a twin brother that’s Italian and lives in Australia ?

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

    Dave,

He tells me his TWIN in Oz is a better fisherman. Lets hope so :).

These streams are very affordable when it comes to chalkstreams over here. £30 outside of mayfly, £50 during. A mayfly hatch on one of these streams really is something else. We had enough water to fish for the whole day and didn’t fish all that was allocated in our beat. There were a few browns that were very circumspect and a little fussy but once you put a fly in front of them they hadn’t seen you could get them to eat.

$60 to fish a part of stream for a day, YIKES.
