MemberI have been quail hunting the past couple of years, but my guys wanted to give grouse a try recently. I went on my first hunt for them this past Sat. We had two dogs, both setters, and one was a real pro. The other was used to Quail and he just could not get over not finding 20 or 30 birds. We did flush 3 or 4 and I got to take one down. It was great fun, mainly because everyone was telling me what an accomplishiment it was. I currently hunt with my Grandfathers 12ga. side by side (1937) and love it even though it doesn’t fit me perfectly.
Zach, I know you said you wanted someday to buy a nice double barrel. When that day comes, I would highly recommend you slide up the road a bit to Barnsley Gardens and go through the Orvis Wingshooting school/fitting. I did that a few weeks ago and have a new O/U on order from them. We are lucky to have that type of facility/expertise outside of Sandanona.

MemberI’ve been using the nor-vise for about a year and for the limited tying I do, I really like it. I challenge anyone to watch the inventor’s demo at a show and resist the urge to get one – he is good!

MemberI have a knock-off of a Regal vise that I have been using for about 5 years and works fine, but I saw the Nor-Vise demonstrated at a fly show and I couldn’t resist buying one. I felt like I was falling for an infomercial because it looks so easy. I have yet to set it up. Is anyone familar with this vise? http://www.nor-vise.com

MemberHere is an interesting concept – I think some people look askance at Orvis because it is such a “brand”. These people portray themselves as above the fray of mass marketing and convince themsleves they choose products based on other attributes. However, they are displaying the height of hypocrisy by consiously choosing not to buy Orvis because of branding.
Anyway, back to your question. I have an 8’6″ 5wt T3. I do not fish it as much since I have recently aquired a 5wt Zero G that is awesome. The T3 is stiffer and faster than the zero G and I plan on using it some nymphing and streamer fishing. I also plan on some warmwater popper finshing with it. Obviously, I am an Orvis believer and recommend the T3.
