I have a Peak and I like it pretty well, it is much better than the one I started with. I think if you do get a Peak and

MemberI also have a Peak, and as of yet, have been unable to break it. The base is large and solid, with full rotary that accomplishes all I need it to. Plus, the price point on Peak vises is awesome, even if one is forced to pay retail. If you get a Peak, and happen to teach any type of tying class in any venue, it is quite simple to get on Peak’s Pro Team.
There ya go Zach! Also, I heard but cannot confirm as I have never owned a Renzetti, that they use bushings rather than the bearings found in the mechanics of a Peak.

MemberI’ve been using the nor-vise for about a year and for the limited tying I do, I really like it. I challenge anyone to watch the inventor’s demo at a show and resist the urge to get one – he is good!

MemberMike,
I’ve been tying flies for about 40 years now and have used a bunch of different vises.

MemberRon,
Looks like a sweet vise and tying setup. Would love to see some more pics of your desk and some flies you’ve tied with that sweet looking vise.
Almost looks like that pedestal would be too big to carry around?

MemberI’ve only been tying for about 6 months now, have the Renzetti Traveler and it seems to work well for me.

MemberI would shoot myself in the face before I would purchase another Renzetti. HMH Spartan for me.

If Renzetti had a less exotic sounding name, something like “super vice” or whatever, I doubt they’d even be half as popular.

MemberJust out of curiosity…what are the issues with renzetti? I have been tying on a traveler for several years, and have never had any complaints or reasons to consider using something else. I tie a wide range of flies from small stuff to big bass and salt water flies and it seems to work fine. Am I missing out by not looking into some of the other vises mentioned on this thread? For those who have decided to upgrade, what advantages do higher end vises have?

Steve K.MemberI’m with Andrew on this one. I can’t figure out the Renzetti haters.
I’ve had a Renzetti for a loooong time with no issues. Am I missing something as well? I’ll buy another brand tomorrow if it will improve my skills.

MemberTo be honest, I have really never tried anything else. I have to say this conversation has made me a little bit curious, but maybe I should just leave well enough alone before it winds up costing me $400.

If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. 🙂

Ive tied on some of these expensive vises and, while they are nice, my favorite is still my $170 HMH Spartan.
Personal preference though and like Scott said, if it aint broke dont fix it.
