Man – now you’ve got me jonesin’ for another trip with the falconers down here. Sadly, as far as I know they’ve all stopped flying their birds for the season due to the heat.
Oh – and to clarify; it’s not that the birds get too hot, but they’re not interested in eating, and if they’re not interested in eating, it’s likely that their instinct to come to the glove won’t be strong, so it’s easy to lose birds when it’s warm.
Or so I’m lead to understand.

MemberGuess I should play too.

MemberKendal if you re thinking of adding a full frame like the 5D I’d give more thought to it.
By getting the 17-40 f4 L which is a bit cheaper you save a bit of money and get a lens with slightly better glass, better build quality

MemberThat lens is likely my next purchase too.
I had a shoot yesterday where the weakness of the 18-55 kit lens really hurt. Sadly, I’d not been able to afford an upgrade (the life of a starving photographer isn’t pretty

MemberJust another thought Zach. Have you thought about placing a gel on a strobe, with a snoot, and shooting it into a black reflective background so that the tight spill comes through your main subject. At the same time, snoot another white balanced strobe into your main subject and let it cast a reflection in front of the subject. I saw this done somewhere but don’t remember where it was, just remember that the images were very impressive.
I’d guess Strobist.com
A great place to pick up tips like that.

MemberThanks K you hit what I was looking for.
kendal larson
MemberK- is your site skinned with this?
?
I’m not sure what you mean. I suspect “skinned” is DotNukeNet-speak – but not sure.
It’s created with a mix of html and flash (generated from Lightroom)
….and is in dire need of an overhaul. I’ve got to rearrange categories – etc.
kendal larson
MemberYeah, Im not going to download this freeware.
kendal larson
MemberThanks K – PS I looked at your site the other night.

MemberSir –
Let me introduce you to Piclens – it is just glorious for viewing Picassa, Google and other images.
kendal larson
MemberDang, put them betweem IMG tags so I dont have to click every one.

MemberCool photo essay. I like how you showed the details of the ship that really make it something special. But I have to say, those pirates don’t look too scary.
LOL

MemberThats pretty amazing. Focus brush indeed.
No kidding – how weird would that be?
Of course, watching it I was thinking, “Um, if you’re shooting for a client and the subject matter was strength, are you really so stupid that you didn’t initially focus on the bicep?”
😉

Hi Zach
Thanks for your message. 99% of my images are taken with the aid of graduated neutral density filters to hold back the bright areas. For the recent 1% I’ve been experimenting a little with HDR but have certainly not mastered it yet and am not sure if I will pursue it further.
Thanks

Anyone know where to get a good graduated filter?
