I used to have a cape and always used it for eyes on big Ken Abrames style flatwings for saltwater stripers. Somehow it got lost in the move. But check with John Kelsey – he usually has this kind of thing for sale:

Or, I’ll go in halves with you on one of the live birds, as long as we can keep it at Zach’s house (I’m sure he won’t mind), and he can just pluck it every once in a while and mail us the feathers.

I’ll happily capitalize Spey, since it is the name of a river after all, but switch is going to have to stand on its own as a lower-case non-proper noun.
I’d go with a Spey rod, all the way. Just be advised that you are opening a door that leads into a maze of hallways; you’ll likely fall in love with the new place right away, but then you’ll get a little lost. Once you navigate your way to the end of it though it will open up into a whole new space you never imaged existed…
Then maybe you’ll come back around to the switch idea.
We’ve actually been keeping a whole stock of these TFO’s down here as loaner rods for clients who either show up without luggage, or break a stick out on the water.

I gotta jump in here and say Gracias one more time as well; Joel, Debbie, you guys were an absolute joy to have in the boat and on the streams. I would consider Mountaintown Creek up in the Cohutta. There is a seldom used biking trail that runs from the forest service road up top to the Bear Creek road/trailhead at the bottom, and I believe you can camp anywhere you like (of course being sure to clean up after yourself and leave the place in as good a shape as you found it). Trout Unlimited did a bunch of stream renovation on the lower stretch several years ago but some flooding knocked most of it out. As of the last time I was up int he states through (a couple of years ago) there were still plenty of stream-born browns and rainbows willing to eat small dry attractor patterns, and it is really beautiful country. Well, we’re here; and we’ll be here next year too. Actually these days I’m here all year round, just bird hunting instead of fishing through the winter.
I feel a little silly jumping in here with all this awesome science going on, but it seems like since what I’ve been doing to create “welded” lops on flylines has worked well for me all these years and it doesn’t seem to have gotten mention yet in the thread, I should probably at least see if it floats.

For what this is worth, I just had a Norwegian fishermen show up here in Rio Pico who had planned on fishing Coyhaique for a week or so but found it impossible due to the unrest, and so skipped across and barely made it to a service station on our side before he ran out of fuel.
I think its 50lb. fireline (the same thing I use for backing on my reels), which is pretty low diameter and not stiff at all.
