I’ll check it out. No actually I live in Alabama where I write outdoor columns, build canoes, and run trips on the Cahaba. I have to agree, it seems that no matter where you go the bigger fish are more likely to take a bigger bait. This certainly isn’t the rule, but there definitely seems to be a correlation. What I have been really experimenting with lately is large deceiver patterns with a lead wrap on the shank. It does a great job of imitating the bream and shad that the big guys live on.

This was like one of the first that i had come up with, since then they have only gotten bigger. One of the more recent ones I made was built on a 2/0 hook and is about 5″s long. Oh and as a side note, the lead wrap allows for the fly to maintain a natural side to side action in the water. But it seems that the wide profile doesn’t lend itself well to current situations. The water will have the fly swimming on its side in no time.
