This pic was taken from the Tower Trail, and thats the Y. Stone…..You cant really go downstream very far…Car is parked in the lot on top of the hill. But you can go upstream a good ways. Cheers.

The egg is a neat griller/smoker….the only down side is that it lacks capacity, and the cost…For the same dollars you can get a nice Weber kettle, a bullet smoker, and a fishing trip…

Here’s some Q from Memorial Day..2 racks of Baby Backs, some spare ribs, two pork butts (lower grate), and plenty of room to spare.
Pork butts get rubbed 5 days in advance, then smoked for 6-8, then in foil for 6-8…Ribs get rubbed the night before and go for about 6 hours. Dang I’m gettin Hungry!

There isnt much water out there this year, so I’d almost bet that the Firehole, Gibbon below the Falls, and Madison will be closed due to high water temperatures in that time frame. The NE corner of the park is better bet…Might try the Y. Stone in the Canyon,  Hellroaring Creek, or far from the car on the Lamar to avoid the crowds on Slough & Soda Butte….The riffle water above the CG on Slough is a great spot to wack a bunch of dinkers. Have fun.

An egg above another fly makes an great underwater strike indicator, thats for sure. Works as a gunsight while sight fishing as well.

Might want to try some cracklebacks and renegades. Cast em out and let em drift, when they start to drag, pull em under and twitch them back fast..Works great on stockers in Missouri Trout Parks. Cheers.

Nice ties…I have a few bucktail versions in my box, but I’ve always had better luck with a Marabou Thunder Creek. Cheers.

Abe, 3wt bamboo is a bit on the light side…I have a several and conditions are rarely nice enough to fish them..I get a lot more use out of my bamboo 4 & 5wts.If I could have only one..it would be an 8′ for a 5wt..if I could have two..8′ for a 5wt and 7.5′ for a 4wt.

Cast a few before you pull the trigger on one..Might post up on the Classic Fly Rod Forum seeking cane heads in your area. Most folks love to break out their boo for a bit of casting and some jaw jacking. Good luck and welcome to the dark side!

John you might want to track down Lefty Ray Chapa..he’s spoken at our fly fishing club in St. Louis a few times and he guides in the Port Aransas area. I havent fished with him, but he seems like a very nice and knowledgeable fellow. Good Luck.

I use a large plastic milk crate. Holds my boots, waders, jacket and other odds and ends. Works well for keeping elevated off the bottom of my canoe too. Cheers.

EP style flies are not a hard tie, but the require a lot of steps…use mono instead of thread, tie in the ep fibers in the middle, then fold back and secure, then move forward on the hook, tying in layers on the top and bottom of the hook..When it comes time for eyes, burn a hole were you want to mount them, clip the stem off the hard plastic eyes, apply some Goop and drop the eyes in place. Line up the eyes, then let dry. Cheers.

It depends…I for trout its usuallay a 9′ 5wt Sage SLT, but sometimes a 9′ 6 or 7wt on bigger water. On small water its usually a 3 or 4wt bamboo. Cheers.

There should be a win win out there for both of you…I dont think the shop owner rates a cut of the guide fee on clients you brought to the table, but you should probably agree to charge your clients the same as a trip booked through the shop, meet them at the shop for licenses and some gear before a trip..any clients he brings to you, you should be willing to share the fee. Cheers.
