Look up pompano jigs, and tie something similar. Learn to find sand fleas on the beach. Fish there.

Have you ever considered a canoe pole? Made one rod a couple years ago.

I freeze mine in ice…Fillets are best when breaded and fried in peanut oil…Whole trout skin on…grill in foil with butter & lemon, or brine and hot smoke them.

The trick to smoked trout is the brine. Add salt to water until it will float an egg, add other flavors if you want. I like a bit of brown sugar and some Zatarains liquid crab boil..

Dont brine them for longer than 12 hours…and let the fish dry on a rack for an hour or so after brining and rinsing…It should look shiny and be a bit sticky to the touch before you toss them in the smoker. That sticky coat (pellicle) is whats gonna keep your fish moist when you hot smoke. Bon Appetit.

Dip it in a can of paint…let the excess drain off..clean the eye and hang it to dry.

Take it you your local shoe repair…You might consider a resole with Vibram streamtreads…Did mine awhile back, and I’m not missing my felts.

Jay…Something in my mind said that I’d like this rod to fish for picky risers in glassy water. It also said that

The Coosa is a nice boat..My buddy has one and its great on the water. The downside- its a real wrestling match to get it on top of your vehicle. Lots of weight in the bow and no easy way to get ahold of it.

I’ve owned several solo canoes over the years..First one was an Old Town Pack. NO initial stability…but good secondary stability. Never rolled it, but I’m glad its gone…To small to carry all my winter camping gear.

I replaced that one with a Wenonah Vagabond. Much better than the Pack..but the bow and sides were to low for my liking. It took in water if you ran it over a good sized ledge or through some good sized chop. Sold that one last year.

Think I’ll probably go with the Coosa, or a Wenonah Wilderness Solo Canoe this time.

I really dont know what is on the market these days Brian…I’m long on 5wts and I dont need another.

This one felt like a really nice dry fly stick. Very light, very smooth, but not something your gonna use to boom 75′ cast all day long.

Quarry Park on the Norfork would be another good option.

The Sage rep dropped by the flyshop this AM and I got a chance to try the 9′ 5wt Circa..Its a smooth caster and incredibly light. The blank is very thin for a 5wt.

Not allot of walleye around here…but I’ve caught a few up north while fishing clousers in the froth below small river dams.

Kinda sucks to find a 2 mile long losing stretch in the middle of your float trip. Bet you wont forget this one!

You might want to consider a solo canoe..I’ve owned several of them over the years. I wouldnt recommend standing in most of them, but they weigh a heck of allot less than most tandem canoes or sit on top kayaks, and paddle upstream almost as well. Cheers.

A six will be fine for Sneaky Pete’s but you will want a bigger rod for larger flies and sinking lines.

The heat of the summer is the time to fish topwater. The Buffalo, Crooked, and the Kings should be on top of your list, but the Crooked and the Kings get really boney in the heat of the summer.

I’d probably fish the lower Buffalo in mid-July or August. Fish late Sunday-Thursday to avoid most of the canoe traffic.
