My wife and I will be heading to Port Aransas, Tx for our anual beach trip.

The surf is usually good this time of year, but it must be flat and green to the beach.

John you might want to track down Lefty Ray Chapa..he’s spoken at our fly fishing club in St. Louis a few times and he guides in the Port Aransas area. I havent fished with him, but he seems like a very nice and knowledgeable fellow. Good Luck.

The surf is always a good option, but I usually find that you need to be out early in the morning cruising the beach looking for birds or guts in the waves.  I have had some days where you get tired of catching trout and ladyfish in the surf, but for me it is usually on or off in the surf.  Also, there are some oil field cuts on the west side of highway as you are driving towards port A from corpus.  Get a hook-n-line map from academy.  They have a wade and kayak fishing version in that area that shows a lot of good places.  Also you can try the padre island seashore, but that is a little bit of a drive from where you will be, but there is a good wade in spot at the bird island boat ramp.

A good resource is a book called Wade and Kayak Fishing the Texas Coast.

We will be doing it ourselves.

John, if you’re doing the surf thing, then I can offer you only a little.
