MemberArkansas generation patterns remind of the Kansas weather (and Arkansas weather too, for that matter): just when you think you have it figured out, it does something ****ing stupid!
Dan
MemberThanks folks.

MemberHike and fish is my favorite type of fishing, and I do a lot of it in the Ozarks. For what it’s worth, I hike and fish in the same pair or two of shoes/sandels. I use the same shoes and sandels I do for running and pretty much everything else: Vibram Five Fingers and home made hurache sandels. This is not the kind of thing you want to just jump right into if you haven’t been running/walking/hiking in minimal footwear for a while. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s great and reduces the gear you have to carry. Of course, this is relativly warm water and seasons in Arkansas; not the potential cold of Colorado, so this may not be practicable there.

MemberZach, Kansas State University offers a fly fishing course both for credit or non-credit through the UFM (a community learning center near campus) here in Manhattan.
Dan
MemberZach hit the nail on the head regarding areas with no fly shops.

MemberHaha! An 11’3″ 2wt? I hope that was a random grab-bag example and there isn’t some kind of story behind that one. That would be a pain in EVERYONE’S ass.
But yeah, I certainly agree with supporting the local guys, but there are some things/times/situations where it’s probably best to just get something elsewhere. That line will likely be different for everyone, much like pretty much everything else in life.
Dan
MemberVery true.

MemberZach, I hunt more critters than the Pope blesses poor people.

MemberThe stockers in the Beaver tailwater go through several stages of retardation before they figure out how to act like trout. I have used the foam spiders like you would use on a farm pond for bluegill. Trim the rubber legs off, maybe trim the body up so it is rounded and you’re in business. The effect is essentially the same as Zach is talking about. If they have been in there a while, then you can get away with more conventional stuff without having to get too crazy. If you close your eyes when you land them so you don’t notice that they have no color or pectoral fins, you can almost convince yourself they are trout. 😉

MemberWow, that reminds me of my life.

MemberIt is a never ending issue and it drives the majority of us mad, while the remainder of “outdoorspersons” continue to be the ethical manure of the world.
I would love to make on-site attitude adjusments, but that is illegal and ultimatly unprofitable, so I just try and go where no one else is as much as I can, and hope for the best when other people are around-which is most of the time. Blatent inconsideration is rare, but increasing and is up near the top of the list of things that instantly infuriate me.

MemberZach, speaking of “Redneck”, was the floppy hatted character sitting on the log inspired by the Rogers Mountie?
