Memberthe slim beauty is more for going from class to a shock tippet (60-100 lb mono), although it works good for building leaders too.

MemberI always hear people swearing by chartreuse but I’ve never done it on the fly.
Carter Simcoe
Membertoo much material will probablly do it quicker than anything.
Carter Simcoe
Memberyeah there’s definitely a balance you’ve got to find, it varies material to material and and hook to hook though. Make a prototype, fill up your bathtub and pull it around in there by hand (on some really light tippet) before making more.
Only other thing I can really say on the matter is to tie relatively sparse. Even if you’re trying to make a large profile fly, you’ll be better off with many sparse layers than just a couple of thick ones.
Carter Simcoe
MemberThat is also a very good suggestion.

MemberMark, some guys use a dremel tool to make a lathe and carve them out of chunks of foam which are often salvaged from crappy chinese kids toys and flip flops at wal*fart.
I don’t use many, mostly just pencil poppers when I do, so I just by the pre formed ones supplied by Wapsi, they’re made of a very hard styrafoam type material.

MemberNO way did Zach catch a 28″ fish. I’ve seen his measuring estimation skills and they are off by about 8″.

Has Lefty figured out how to log on with his Smith Corona yet?

MemberWelcome to the machine.

MemberThen I fail to see your point.
Carter Simcoe
MemberUmm, no.
Carter Simcoe
MemberYou see my point.
Honestly I really don’t. I go fishing in part to get away from all that crap, so drive by me in a floating billboard and you’ve just taken my day down a notch. I’m of the opinion that if waders with zippers and built in chest packs can’t sell themselves through word of mouth and good reputation then they probablly aren’t neccessary.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Simms, It’s a great product and if they want to take out ads in Field and Stream or whatever then I say have at it. I really don’t care one way or the other about product advertisement
Carter Simcoe
MemberDon’t you think it’s kind of a half-assed attempt though?
