In conclusion this is a stupid pet peeve of mine.

Three marketers left at dawn to search for my soul but only two returned.  One took up finger-painting and would never speak another word for as long as he lived while the other invented TIVO just before turning himself in to the police for a crime he hadn’t yet committed.

solid report, looks like good times

for some reason whenever I think of Mike the first thing that I picture are those mirrored sunglasses.  Any man with a grill on his boat is fine in my book.

It’s not so much that you come across as an ass, more that the whole act is just painfully predictable by now.

in reply to: Top Ten Fishing Destinations #24448

You see, that’s what I’m after there.  I mean how much time have you ever spent in Texas?  I’ve never once lived in Texas but I’ve spent plenty of time there and it’s a pretty kick ass place with lots of cool stuff to see and do, plus great fishing.  Everyplace has it’s highlights, yes some more than others, but when you keep turning every conversation back to how superior Alaska is in every regard it really starts to lose it’s punch and can make what had potential to be great story matter come across as pretty lackluster in the end.  I’m sure Alaska has great fishing and I really look forward to doing it someday but you also might be surprised at the number of people who, in fact, aren’t jealous of those who are stuck up there year-round.  Just saying.

Patrick’s posts always remind me of that old joke about how you can tell if someone isn’t from Texas.

(they haven’t told you they’re from Texas within the first 10 minutes of meeting them)

John is right in that neither comes close to a canoe.

I’ve always been intrigued by the technique of taking one of the square type ND filters and “painting” with it in front of the lens while the shutter is open.

I still think it’s some level of HDR, could be that he’s doing some of those where the waves aren’t as blurred at a really high ISO I suppose, resulting in shorter expsures than you might think….

in reply to: Beautiful Landscape Work #62799

what makes you think it’s more than just basic HDR technique?

Product advertising appeals to the wannabes and weak-minded, always has, always will.  I certainly don’t need ads to tell me that fly fishing kicks ass but then I don’t pay much attention to that stuff anyway so it doesn’t really bother me either.

in reply to: Arkansas’ Donny Beaver Gets his Comeuppance #24285

Still seems really low to me, not that I’m exactly surprised or anything.

    edit

Actually I’ll elaborate.  Yeah, as far as quickly getting some limited funds going straight to cleaning up the mess (especially in a poor state like Arkansas) there is definitely a big difference in fining losers like this 175K they can afford to write a quick check for vs a 1.5M judgement that they can’t.  You’re right, the river would likely never see a dime once it gets tied up in some sort of chapter 7, or whatever, bankruptcy and the lawyers start bickering back and forth, but that’s just the fault of a crappy system that often doesn’t protect what really needs/deserves protecting.

So yeah, they’ll have a little cash to kick around and attempt to minimize the long term impact of this fool but what does a slap-on-the-wrist fine like this really do for teaching these types of losers any sort of lesson?  I wouldn’t be surprised if the corners they cut, which caused this mess, saved them more than $175K in the first place.

It’s pathetic really, although don’t take it to mean I don’t appreciate the work of those who fought so hard against this.
