I figured monitor size was an issue – like I said, I was giving you an FYI post just in case.

Just in case – you weren’t intending the board to display on a regular-size monitor without scrolling side to side, were you?

    Amen on the wow part.

Well, god forbid they put the rod down and just hold the fish.

AP is reporting that Frank Whittington (the guy Cheney shot) has suffered a mild heart attack due to birdshot lodged in his heart.  He has been returned to ICU and is expected to remain hospitalized for at least a week more.

All previous levity aside, this is looking like it might be a lot more serious than what we initially understood.

Our thoughts and prayers need to be with this guy.

I keep hearing the same thing on this.

I had one on a 5wt and light tippet once that took nearly an hour to land.

If the old guy dies, do hunting ethics require Cheney to eat him?

Wish I’d been able to get out there today.

Cheney should have stuck to fly fishing.

in reply to: Oh man. #10827

Other thoughts come to mind as I think about this more:

    1.  After the shooting was over, did Cheney’s bird dog retrieve the old guy?

    2.  If you’re going to get shot in a hunting accident, you definitely want it to be on a trip with the VP.  You just *know* Cheney has a medical team and an ambulance on call whereever he goes.

    3.  Did they get the quail?

in reply to: Small Stream Fly rods #10811

I’ve always wondered whether a short rod might be an advantage when streamer fishing with Kelly Gallup’s “jerk strip” method.  I use a 9′ 8wt for streamer fishing, and it can be awkward to rapidly strip a fly with such a long rod.  I think it might turn out to be a little bit easier with a short rod, though I haven’t tried it.

On the other hand, casting might be tougher.  Plus, I imagine it would be pretty expensive to obtain a 7′ rod in 7 or 8 wt, because it’s not a common item.  That cost factor will probably prevent me from ever getting to try it…

What do you make of the bit in the article where they “got out of the car” to shoot at a covey?

in reply to: Strike Indicators #10846

There are certainly days when you don’t need them.

in reply to: Oh man. #10824

He should have saved that for one of his hunting trips with Scalia…

Yup, I’d try to get the casting lesson and then the guide trip to follow up thereafter.

Sorry ’bout that – I wasn’t trying to rush you.

Looks like all the text justification is centered now…

in reply to: Casting mechanics question #10775

Like I said before, at some point I’ll probably invest some time in some casting lessons.

in reply to: Casting mechanics question #10773

I don’t think I’m picking up more than 15 or 20′ of line off the water on the initial back cast.
