I wish all the board members peace in the New Year.
I don’t know about the Nikon D70, but the kit lens with my Canon 30D which is the equivalent I believe is pretty cheap (about a $100 lens). Unless its under warranty I don’t know if it will be worth the repair cost unless NPS will work something out for you. Hope it works out for you.
John or Buzz – Does Canon have a Canon Professional Services in the US? Does anyone have the contact info?

For those of you wanting to increase you skill in photography, I’d say shoot…shoot…shoot.
I’d be interested in knowing how many shots you think you took this year Mike–if you kept track. I set up my software to keep track of cumulative shots, and found I’ve shot about 2,000 photos since June. One photo shoot about 300 shots. I’m getting about 1 really nice shot to every 100. Shooting a fair amount of angler action, it seems even if lighting and settings are right, there is always something I don’t notice in the composition that ruins a shot when looking at it later.
Sometimes too I get lazy, and it just requires taking the effort to get the camera out and think creatively. This is definitely one of the more creative boards, thanks to Zach, Mike and everyone, and I’m learning.
Seeing the bee pictures makes me want to ask, what’s the technique for good photos of insects swarms, for instance aquatic insects in the air. I know the lighting is important, either some backlighting or low angle side light, but any special lenses (super wide angle perhaps to get in as close as possible) or techniques?
This fella came into my yard just before dark back in September. He followed 30 minutes behind 8 does. Taken through my double paned kitchen window. I would not have gotten the shot on film. Canon 30D, 75-300 IS, 300mm, 1/50s @f5.6, 3200 ISO. It was about the limits of the equipment.

The trout handbook which is an interpretative sumary says “closed to fishing.” The actual codebook (1/2006) says: “This area is closed to fishing or wading from November 1 – January 31.”

The eggs start to soften about a month before emergence around the 1st of February which is part of the reason for the reg.

Everybody who travels and fishes ought to consider the Aquastealth sole to help minimize transmitting invasive species such as Didymo around to others waters.
New Zealand biologists have discovered it is almost impossible to rid felt soles of Didymo algae cells.

I was going to buy a pair Weinbrenner stealth boots as their wide fit has been one of the most comfortable boots for me over the years. However, because of the overseas imports they are downsizing and have eliminated the Aquastealth sole from their lineup just recently.
I’ve probably bought my last pair of felt boots.

The Bull Shoals state park C&R area extends for .8 mile down from the dam to the wingdike at the state park trout dock. It is closed for the spawn.
The statepark area from the wingdike to somewhere below Big Spring becomes a seasonal catch and release area during that closure and is closed to night fishing just like Cow Shoals on the Little Red.
I found out today Game and Fish has redesigned their website http://www.agfc.com
and all their material is not back up yet. But their trout reg book with the maps and everything should be back up soon–I hope. I’ll have to redo all my links to their site as their redesign broke everything.Happy Holidays,

Anybody here using ACDSEE Pro Photo Manager? I attended a workshop last August with Loren Neil, product line manager at ACDSee, where he demonstrated the program. I purchased the program shortly after. It is a cataloger like Lightroom but also a browser like Adobe Bridge. You can also edit raw files non-destructively, and a couple times I’ve saved some photos that I shot underexposed. You simply change the exposure compensation setting in the program. Pro Photo’s core competence is speed.
Would be interested in any comparision between Pro Photo and Lightroom if anyone has used both. Loren did say, which made a lot of sense to me, once you decide on a Data Asset Management program stick with it. You build up quite an investment in the time you spend cataloguing. It doesn’t make sense to have multiple data bases of your files.

I can’t find anything on DXR multipliers either. I remember the DXR were originally produced as Direct Drive/Anti-Reverse reels.
The anti-reverse feature might get confused with a multiplier action.

Photoshop Elements has a Photomerge feature that works pretty good, especially if you take care to level the camera and get some precise overlap. It has an auto and a manual mode. I am still using Elements 1.0, so they may have changed it on the menu (File-Photomerge).
