Look into AJ Thramer Rods. Great rods based on older tapers. They’re in the $800 – $1000 range. DiamondBack has a new cane rod out, it looks nice, I believe it’s Asian Made but it’s also about $600! There are MANY cane rod builders, they all have waiting lists so that does make it prblematic. Again, going with a Diamondback or Headwaters, Sierra Rods or other overseas rod would help you there. It’s a fickle market so be prepared. Clarkes is a very helpful board, careful though, there are a couple of sketchy people there.

PS For those that don’t know, T&T started out almost 40 years ago as a bamboo rod maker. Tom Dorsey, one of the original Toms, still runs the company.
Zach I have the Nikon Filter on a Sony R1 – basically same chip/factor as you have I believe- with no vignetting at 24mm, my widest.Very nice filter and well worth the money IMHO. It’s very slim by comparison to other polarizers I have had and seen. I suspect the larger filter/adapter ring may be your only option at 12mm.

WillZach, I don’t know if this will help you or not, but years ago I bought a nice tiffen 62mm circular polarizing filter for another camera outfit. When I bought my canon gear, I bought a 62 to 58mm adapter ring so I could continue to use the polarizer with the 58mm Canon lenses. I’ve not had any vignetting issues with it on any of the lenses at the widest angles.
You might think about an 82mm polarizer with an adapter ring. ???

I’d buy my slide film from B&H. Velvia is about $5.50 a roll and Provia $3.50.
I’d usually buy 20-40 rolls to get the bulk price and to save on shipping. Store it in the frig or the freezer. I’ve used their A&I film mailers and the service and quality is good. It just takes a while from California.
The Slide Printer in Denver also has good service and they used to pay postage. You may have a quality mail lab on the east coast there.
Only ever lost one roll of film and apparently it was the post office’s fault. But it had the best sequence on it of a heron swallowing a fish I had ever taken. :'(

It is a bargin, especially for light use or a backup, but see john or buzz’s comment (sorry I can’t remember who) under moosedog’s thread about not being able to hang big lenses off it. I think Joel just bought one. So he should chime in.
I would hold off on Canon DSLR right now until they announce (about March 8th) what new lines are coming out. Probably will not include a new consumer grade body, but there have been rumors. The price drop of another $100 on the street price may signal something too.
