I don’t think anyone took your post as a political statement Stuart…if it is a post or release like Shimano’s, that gets folks reading, paying attention to all sides of an issue….then great.
Wish more folks would get involved or take the time to read more about issues that concern them Too easy to be spoon fed information right now. Information that can be completely out of context.

Okay…as my grandfather is fond of saying…3 sides to every story. We have seen what one manufacturer has to say…have any of us..myself included read the full report? Below is a link to the report I believe they are referring to. I am going to go through it myself before commenting further. People pay a lot of money to folks to spin things to fit their needs. I know I am tasked with finding those types of folks everyday in my executive search business. As a result I am always a skeptic…especially when Shimano does not see fit to provide a link to said recently published administration document” I have to ask Why?

I had major problems with Berkley Vanish due to inconsistent strength and breakage.
It is named vanish for a reason… 😉
Honestly Billy…I used to swear by Rio flouro…then I happened to run out of it 1 day and had some frog’s hair in the chest pack…switched to that out of necessity and did not see a noticeable decrease in catch rate.
So..if I am catching similar amounts of fish with a product that is easier on the wallet…why not switch?
I am off the flouro bandwagon right now.
Trout..I am using Frog’s Hair…has been consistent in terms of quality and the pricepoint has been okay.
Steel/Salmon Maxima Green or Chameleon neither have failed me.
I am pretty simple.
Yuengling…very good…but the old reliables in the refrigerator..

Go to a shop cast the rods and buy the one you like.
Best piece of advice. It is a subjective situation. Fast/slow/mid whatever it might be….does not matter. If you can cast it well, feels comfortable, then that is the right rod for you. There are a lot of very good manufacturers out there besides orvis…although few are better at marketing. my .02
Oh and one other thought…to get the best performance from the rod…you need to match the line to it.
I run an executive search firm here in CT and handle searches nationally for interactive marketing related roles…I spend all my time on the web and looking at different samples of folks work.
A manufacturer whose website is just a flat out miss is William Joseph.
I used to use a lumbar pack but realize that some of the rivers I cross I ended up wading a lot deeper than the pack could handle.
I picked up a used William Joseph Confluence chest pack and that has worked out much better for me.

Holy moses…talk about a quiver full of arrows! I would be paralyzed trying to choose one to use.
Regarding organization…
I try to keep similar materials together.
Capes and saddles in box
beads and eyes in another
dry fly hooks in one…nymphs and wets in another…that kind of thing.must have a good source of music and light…and a fridge with cold beer nearby is also especially helpful.
