I think those pads might be made of grippy shelf liner; a spey rod supplier was packaging a small baggie with the grippers for unseating ferrules, paraffin wax for lubricating them, and electric tape to prevent slippage.

I am with David. The main thing I notice is that every image has the horizon line basically in the exact middle, which is a bit of a no-no. Don’t be afraid to let the horizon ride the very top or very bottom of the image, even more extreme than the rule of thirds. Don’t be afraid to try a vertical shot, either.
The only scenario I can think of when the horizon should be dead-centered is if you have a nice reflection, such as of the sun setting, and you are trying to highlight their opposition. Even then, the effect can be a little more “optical illusion” than description, which is usually not what we are going for with outdoor photography.

If you are staying in Cumming, you’re not that far from the Waters Creek and Duke’s Creek managed fisheries north of Dahlonega, about 30 minutes north of Cumming.
Gar are fun – Kent Edmonds is a wizard at getting flies back, but I’d probably just slice through the fly and bring more rope.
I believe Google has algorithms that take into account not just the links, but the number of times they are *followed.*
