It’s more likely to be an approach thing than a fly selection thing. Are you coming up on the carp from behind or from in front? Carp are very spooky and sensitive. Have you tried lengthening your leader out to 12′ or so? I like to see how a carp is feeding and then make an early cast into the mud in front of it (I use Crazy Charlies). When it comes over the spot I know my fly is resting on, I puff the mud lightly a few times to draw the carp in.
If you are fishing deeper water, you might try waiting for a warmwater mayfly hatch – carp will sip flies off the surface. Or, you could always go with the last-ditch effort of chumming them in. A box of Wheaties works wonders as chum – just throw a popper into it and wait for the eat.

Viewing the site on my work monitor, it’s clear the tans I’ve chosen aren’t dark enough to come through on the brighter monitors (they look fine on a Mac).
There’s the odd thing left to do now but I think I can safely declare the board upgraded at this point.
Don’t get attached. I’m changing everything, there’s just a lot of CSS involved. My earlier post was from when the entire board looked like it was written in 1994 (i.e. there was no style applied at all).

In this at least, I’m a journalist. We get bookended into the crappiest parts of the season. If River Plate wants to offer me the same deal Xingu did in a good part of the year, I’m all for it. 🙂

Thiago, I was in Brazil in summer 2006, when I was supposed to be studying for the bar exam. Huge country. My bags saw most of it. What part are you in? I am surprised by the snook; I thought they were a northern Caribbean species.
I fished the Xingu River. It sucked. We did manage some fish, though:
(Look how peacocks, a cichlid species, have a weird extra set of pectoral fins).
