THAT’S AWESOME, Jay. Well done. Looks like you did a really clean job too. Did one side come with a floor tab and the other not or was the tab destroyed on one of them?
Also was it laid up initially with woven roving or did they blast it with wet chop? Either way now that you’ve figured out the rocker and you’ve got those panels out, you’re basically just waiting on them to get you a damn bench so you can finish assembly and paint.

Ha! Sorry, I thought the ‘Summer 2014’ title was taking care of that. I’ve put the start date of April 1 in the rules. Contest ends August 15.

Here in the U.S. the inflatables are typically viewed as a last ditch, pull-the-ripcord type thing. The most comfortable vests I’ve worn are kayaking vests with a zipper. My kayaking vest is zipper-less, and while it is comfortable once on, it is a bear to pull over your head.

Teresa you could always wet wade with the felt soles and a pair of tight-fitting neoprene socks. Simms made some several years ago and they work well. Gravel may get between your sock and the boot but it won’t grind on your skin, which is the main thing.

Depends on whether those posted numbers are anything like realistic. My AWD CR-v is supposed to get like 26 highway but on my most recent trip to Arkansas it averaged 20.3. I think that highway figure is calculated at 55mph, not 75mph.

Jeff what kind of mileage do you get with the X-Terra?
Jay I hear you on that but part of what I am worried about is that the new Chrysler has basically no track record since Fiat took over. I am definitely going to drive both.

That’s really solid. I would absolutely freaking love to fish Yellowstone Lake that way on a late evening. I did that once from the shore and caught a 22″ cutthroat, then saw a coyote. Then I realized I was totally alone with plenty of large carnivores around… and went back to the fire. But from a boat, man, that would be so cool.

That’s awesome Jack. Thanks for sharing. Really like those flies. I once watched an older guy on the Little Red River in Arkansas catch just fish after fish on swung wets like that. I think he had over 100 by the time I left the area out of disgust. 🙂

Life jackets would work, so would sheet foam. Don’t use an inflatable, I learned that. My lights are pretty darn bright. I am happy with them. They were the 18″ tubes sold by Bass Pro.

Clark’s comments are fair, I think the rod was somewhat overhyped. One of the things I’ve learned a lot about in years of talking to rod designers is that the very best they are capable of is an incremental improvement over what came before. I think the Radian may be the best fast action rod I’ve ever thrown, but to quantify it? Is it 5% better than the next-best? 10%? I couldn’t say.
I will say that if you go looking for a revelation–or have a revelation sold to you–when what you really have is just an incremental improvement, then you are bound to be disappointed.
Now I do want to be clear that NONE of that over-hype was actually coming from Scott. Those guys have consistently said they are proud of the rod and happy that people like it. I have never heard or seen any advertisements touting the Radian as the best rod on the market (they typically leave claims like that to their competitors).
I think we, as consumers and anglers, are sort of programmed to over-declare, over-praise, and then when someone else comes along and tries out what we liked, they end up scratching their heads because they aren’t holding the lightning bolt we said they would be holding.
I have a Radian and a G2 both in 5 weight. I’ll use them situationally. I still love my G2 and will probably keep using it as my primary rod. For dry fly work, and maybe some long-distance nymphing where I need set-ability, I’ll use the Radian.
Hell, these days the rod I use most often is the S4s 10 weight, which I still love despite it being a bit delicate for what I do with it.
