Tim AngeliMemberColin,
To make a long story short, there were browns too. The makeup of rainbows-to-browns varied from section to section.
From what I saw and caught, the water that was included in the pictures in this report held mostly rainbows. There were a few browns too, but I would guess 80% rainbows or so.
The water that I fished later in the trip held a larger percentage of browns, with some sections that were probably more along the lines of 80% browns.

Cheers,
Tim
Tim AngeliMemberThe Mirage is currently available online.
Tim AngeliMemberThanks all, I’m glad that you guys enjoyed it.
Tim AngeliMemberVery cool.
Tim AngeliMemberAbe,
I’ll throw Lamson into the mix.
Tim AngeliMemberGreat interview.
Tim AngeliMemberShould be a good one. Looking forward to it.
Thanks,
Tim
Tim AngeliMemberPost has been updated with full size pics. I had to split up up into two separate posts so that all of the pics would load.
David, I would definitely like to get the chance to meet up with you on the Tongariro this winter. Let me know when it’s going to happen and I’d love to tag along. I don’t mind banter about rugby, everyone knows the All Blacks are the world’s best anyway.
Joel, the more I dig into the whole theft thing, the more I find out. It sounds like it’s not really an issue on the South Island, which is likely why you didn’t have a problem or hear much about it. It’s brutal on the North Island though. I love the pies! So good. Did you ever try the sausage rolls? They make you feel like your heart is going to stop mid-way through, not exactly healthy, but definitely delicious. Don’t worry, I’m not letting my studies get too far in the way. After all, I gotta feed my addiction. 😉

I’ll definitely keep the reports coming. I’ve lived vicariously through so many of the reports on this board, the least I can do is repay the favor. I have at least 2 more editions from this trip, and after that I guess I’ll just have to plan another trip.
I definitely don’t have the whole NZ fishing thing perfected yet, and there are a ton of people that know infinitely more than I do (a.k.a. Simon, Clark, Morsie, etc.), but I’m happy to answer any questions that people might have. From what I’ve found, it’s definitely as advertised…spooky fish, long leaders, lots of sight fishing, lots of walking, gin clear water, big fish, and some of the most rewarding fishing you will ever experience. It’s not for everyone, and if you can’t approach a day knowing that there is the definite possibility of getting blanked, then it might not be for you. That being said, I absolutely love it down here!
Cheers,
Tim

Yes, they have small fish in NZ too.
Tim AngeliMember;D That’s awesome.
Tim AngeliMemberI apologize about the size of the images. Apparently I had the bulk uploader set on some small size rather the usual large size that I use. I’ll try to re-upload them in the largest size tomorrow and edit the post accordingly.

edit: image size fixed now
Tim AngeliMemberThanks guys.
Tim AngeliMemberTim,
I have the fishpond waterdance guide pack and really like it. I wear it as a sling pack rather than a waist pack just because it’s more comfortable for me. It easily holds 3-4 fly boxes (I usually carry 1 or 2 large boxes and 2 medium boxes) in addition to
Tim AngeliMemberI have their Rivershed boots and they seem to run true to size.

Tim AngeliMemberGreat customer service is highly under-rated in my opinion.
Tim AngeliMemberConsidering the turn that this thread has taken, I’d like to say that I have seen Ted in concert (in his hometown of Detroit) and can honestly say that he can shred on the guitar like no one I have ever seen before. Honestly, if you ever get the chance to see Ted Nugent live, take it! I would love to get the chance to see him perform again, much less get the chance to see his ranch.
Grant, great pictures, and an amazing looking ranch.
Cheers,
Tim
Tim AngeliMemberI love using my Fishpond bag as a sling pack to carry my fly boxes and spare spools/reels, but I would really like to make the step to dSLR where I would need to protect my gear by going to a waterproof pack. I really liked the Simms Hip Pack (http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/dry_creek_chest_hip_pack.html). Looks like the other waist option now is (http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/dry_creek_flats_pack.html) or going the backpack route with (http://www.simmsfishing.com/site/dry_creek_day_pack.html).
Any thoughts on the LL Bean pack vs. the Simms? I love my Simms gear, which causes me to lean toward the Hip Pack. I’d love to know what you all think.
Thanks in advance,
Tim
Tim AngeliMemberMorsie,
Thanks for the advice.
Tim AngeliMemberFound it:
http://www.itinerantangler.com/cgi-bin/board/YaBB.pl?num=1262130190/1#1Hope that helps. Not specifically about two piece rods, but has some good info nonetheless. Your best bet is just call or email your airline and ask them. Like Mike said, I’ve seen people carry on two piece rods in the past, but it’s best to check with your airline to there aren’t any surprises once you get to the airport.

Tim AngeliMemberPete,
There was a fairly extensive thread about this not too long ago, within a month if I remember correctly. That will likely be very helpful for you.
