Stu HastieMemberPretty Browns! What spectacular fish. π
Stu HastieMemberThanks Simon, yes one hell of a river. I managed to get a few in the net on the afternoon we arrived, as well as getting humbled by a very nice fish. Early on the first full day, I slipped on my arse and broke my rod, so just took photos from there on. I feel like I have unfinished business . There is a truckload of fish in there, and really cool to have to fish to every imaginable little lie. π
Stu HastieMemberAnd the nearest I have to the obligitory IA food shot…

Stu HastieMemberThanks Tim. I kind of like that one too. We all do it. How many of us don’t check out the river as we drive past?
Stu HastieMemberOK thanks Zach.
I think I’ll just start from scratch. π

It was a very slippery river, and although it was hilarious when Sven had a little sit-down in the river, I wasn’t laughing so much when it was my turn! At least my camera survived unscathed π

Stu HastieMemberBugger π
Anyone got any tips on where I went wrong with the Flickr link? I’ve clicked on the
Stu HastieMemberNice Tim. I’m keen on getting out for the last roll of the dice this weekend, but it looks like another blown out weekend with a couple of days rain forecast. π

Stu HastieMemberEF-S 17-55 IS would fill the gap very nicely.
Stu HastieMemberWow. The proverbial “Silk Purse” Amazing shot John. π
…now where did I drop my jaw….
Stu HastieMemberThanks Corey. It was a long walk up a small stream without fish. It got to the point where I contemplated prayer, and then we came across this guy. The water level was down, and he wasn’t in great condition. Eel bitten as well.

We dropped back to the main river to fish, and my only fish for the day proved to be a bit of a handfull ;D

Adam, I did a lot of research, and it took a long time for me to save for that lens, and I have to say I am very, very happy with my purchase. It’s awesome. π
Stu HastieMemberThanks Tim. Yes that’s Paua. I built that myself last year on a CTS blank.
Looks like there’s only 4 from flyshop keen on May, so give your mates the heads up, and see if they’re interested in coming along. If not, 4 is a good number anyhow. I’ll be in touch soon. Busy this week.
Stu HastieMemberThat last one’s really cool!
Stu HastieMemberGreat images, but I have to say, I’m a sceptic. It looks shopped to me. The bird doesn’t look wet enough on exit, the flash line on the breast doesn’t stack up with the shadow on the snow. There should be water shedding off the wing tips. Three fish? Just my opinion.
Stu HastieMemberCool. π I like the way all your panels look so straight…for now π
Stu HastieMemberThanks for all the input guys π
Nice John, very nice π
Stu HastieMemberNice Corey π
On the topic of fish eating fish. Last summer I watched a fish, which when I first saw it, was quite agitated, thrashing its head around and looking like it had something stuck in it’s mouth. I watched as something appeared to be coming out of the fishes gill cover and was gobsmacked when a small eel appeared from the gill plate, and swam away with the fish in hot pursuit.
Dumass me watched this happen two times, before it dawned on me I should get the camera out! ::)

For perspective, that’s about a 3lb fish.
Another time I watched a 2lbish brown for about 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get a big crayfish (crawdaddy?) down the hatch. That’s a lot of protein.

Stu HastieMemberMore natural bling. π
I was hoping to have a flick with the cane, but I don’t think P-A was too keen on getting it out in the weather.
Stu HastieMemberSorry Zach, I missed your post. Those are Manuka beetles. Plenty of them around during Dec-Jan. Natural bling. π
