Thanks Simon, yes one hell of a river. I managed to get a few in the net on the afternoon we arrived, as well as getting humbled by a very nice fish. Early on the first full day, I slipped on my arse and broke my rod, so just took photos from there on. I feel like I have unfinished business . There is a truckload of fish in there, and really cool to have to fish to every imaginable little lie. 😎

Thanks Tim. I kind of like that one too. We all do it. How many of us don’t check out the river as we drive past?

It was a very slippery river, and although it was hilarious when Sven had a little sit-down in the river, I wasn’t laughing so much when it was my turn! At least my camera survived unscathed πŸ™‚

I had the big self debate over the 17-55 as well. I decided to go for it, and it took me over a year to save for it. I’m really glad I did. It’s a great lens, and I’m having a whole lot of fun with it.

EF-S 17-55 IS would fill the gap very nicely.

Thanks Corey. It was a long walk up a small stream without fish. It got to the point where I contemplated prayer, and then we came across this guy. The water level was down, and he wasn’t in great condition. Eel bitten as well.

We dropped back to the main river to fish, and my only fish for the day proved to be a bit of a handfull ;D

Adam, I did a lot of research, and it took a long time for me to save for that lens, and I have to say I am very, very happy with my purchase. It’s awesome. πŸ™‚

Thanks Tim. Yes that’s Paua. I built that myself last year on a CTS blank.
Looks like there’s only 4 from flyshop keen on May, so give your mates the heads up, and see if they’re interested in coming along. If not, 4 is a good number anyhow. I’ll be in touch soon. Busy this week.

Great images, but I have to say, I’m a sceptic. It looks shopped to me. The bird doesn’t look wet enough on exit, the flash line on the breast doesn’t stack up with the shadow on the snow. There should be water shedding off the wing tips. Three fish? Just my opinion.

    Nice Corey 😎

On the topic of fish eating fish. Last summer I watched a fish, which when I first saw it, was quite agitated, thrashing its head around and looking like it had something stuck in it’s mouth. I watched as something appeared to be coming out of the fishes gill cover and was gobsmacked when a small eel appeared from the gill plate, and swam away with the fish in hot pursuit.
Dumass me watched this happen two times, before it dawned on me I should get the camera out! ::)

    For perspective, that’s about a 3lb fish.

Another time I watched a 2lbish brown for about 5 minutes trying to figure out how to get a big crayfish (crawdaddy?) down the hatch. That’s a lot of protein.

    More natural bling. 😎

I was hoping to have a flick with the cane, but I don’t think P-A was too keen on getting it out in the weather.

Sorry Zach, I missed your post. Those are Manuka beetles. Plenty of them around during Dec-Jan. Natural bling. πŸ™‚
