I’m just wondering whether posting pics on the net affects that images saleability. Not that I’m a professional, but if I could sell a few images to help pay for the hobby, great.
With that in the back of my mind, I tend not to post my best pics for fear of comprimising that images value. Should I be so worried?

I’ve heard a fly magazine editor mention he’d seen a shot on a forum..

I generally only post stuff after publication.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

In my experience no. I sold roughly 25 images last year, most of which have been online for some time. That said there are some shots I dont upload for that reason, but theres usually something “unique” about them.

Meaning for simple example. A portrait of a fish, is a portrait of a fish. Loosely speaking if youve seen 1 youve seen a million. If an AD is looking for an image of a Brown, I really dont think it matters that you have 30 brown images online and 5 held back.

Also keep in mind some ADs like to peruse your sites, especially once your established with them, when they are looking for something. If your not inlcuding your better images and are only uploading mediochre to good stuff…………………..

So uploading to the web, displaying some on forums, fb etc. I dont its hampered sales for me at all.

A few images I showed here (and a few other forums, that subsequently sold)

plus quite a few others I dont have online (pdfs of the issue)

I would prob say no. Sort of a chicken and egg thing IMO. If you don’t put it out there, no one will see it. I post all of my stuff to my online galleries and to forums here and there… I have had a few shots published in the last year and all of them were posted online. Plus, at the same time I have the philosophy that its simply enjoyable to share photos, see what people like, talk about them, etc.

    Love that last shot John!

I would generally agree with Corey, with one caveat.

    What Zach said.

…and then what Corey said – with regards to John’s last shot.
