Reds and trout for the most part. You’ll see tons of mullet that don’t tend to hit flies. Hard as it may be to walk away from a swirling school of fish, its a huge waste of time to cast to them…

In terms of flies be sure to have clousers, bonefish sliders, a few spoon flies, shrimp and crab patterns, For top water try the V.I.P. foam popper.
For location, try Aransas Pass – either side of the causeway. On the North is Light House Lakes. It offers many sheltered pools and my be best if the wind kicks up. On the South side is B&R flats – another local hot spot. Easy car camping right off the road. Both spots are accessed by a very short kayak paddle. If you need one, rent your kayak here:

    Good Luck!

    there’s an underwater setting?

hey Pete! uuuuum. no I did not use the underwater setting. I haven’t exactly read through the manual yet. am just getting started with this camera and had some fun on the river the other day with it. now I’m ready to read about the features and see what I can do with it. when/if it comes back from the grand canyon…I lent it to my buddy who lost his in the river the other day (thx again for the passes btw, we had a ball)

neal — your pics are AWESOME. Pete, I should redirect all Qs about this camera to Neal. his scuba diving pictures are inspiring. am going to take the camera to the bahamas in april and hopefully will have more cool pics to share

zach — thx for the link to the video. very cool, I’m definitly going to order one. my daughter was so intrigued with the underwater trout pic. she said it helps understand what she’s doing when she’s casting…can’t beat that for an extra dose of education!

Just put it in “scene” mode and flip through until you find it. I think there are a couple of underwater options. I assume its a bullshit feature, but, hey, you never know…

I got the same camera a month or so ago. Did you use the underwater setting or just leave it in auto?

Bamboo is a lot cheaper than hardwood! Mostly because the install cost is minimal: its pre finished.

That said, bamboo is impossible to re-finish and touch-up. Also, bamboo is laminated under lots of pressure, but over time, it tends to curl up and go back to its original state. After a few years you are left with scuffed-up cupped floor boards.

So, bamboo is great it you want to tear it up and start over in 10 years, but thats not my idea of “green”.
