Ditto what everyone has said.
Take a 7 1/2 foot 3 or 4 weight and a half dozen size 16 yellow stimulators and you are set. For subsurface…..Size 14 or 16 Tellico Nymphs or Prince Nymphs will do fine. Fish them one-and-a-half times the water depth….below an indicator.
The brown trout should start getting ornery at that time. Try the bigger water at sunrise or sunset with streamers.

It’s the FIX UWL-04 Fisheye Lens w/dome port…… 0.42x magnification with a 160° field of view. The zoom lens on the S90 was pulled back to 28mm.
Adam…the fishing was off the charts as expected. We caught some rainbows that were right at 30 inches. The downside was the salmon were not dropping eggs yet….and the fish were on the skinny side as a result. The fish below will be a pig in another month.

…last time I got checked they pulled everything out of the cases and wiped it down with some type of a wet wipe looking thing and ran it through a machine :-[

The swabbing is done in an effort to detect explosive (or drug) residue. The swab will turn blue if explosive (or drug) residue is detected. Most likely the TSA uses a swab that detects explosives while Customs might utilize the swabs that detect drugs.
Tongue-and-cheek aside…..Last week I did have a TSA agent politely explain…..”Sir….we want to run your case (Pelican with photo gear) through the scanner a second time”.
They never did search it. So yes…I agree, we probably come under extra scrutiny.
Fisheye Fix S90 Housing and Canon S90 P&S
I’m really pleased with this setup. Lightweight, small and compact….perfect for the itinerant angler!
As you can see in this photo(below)….droplets on the top half of the dome are problematic. Note to self…spit on dome. This was shot in an alpine lake so I had to be careful not to stir up sediment. The angler in the boat helped avoid this issue.
I prefer the totally UW photo so as to add an abstract look and avoid the aforementioned droplet problem.
I guess you could call this an underwater grip and grin.
I’m still trying to perfect the action shots that Tim captured in his salmon photos. The weather was mostly cloudy during the trip….which meant slower shutter speeds and higher ISO settings. I’m still striving for the blue sky and fluffy cloud backgrounds. I also found it difficult to get the tack sharp action shots…..but with better weather….this should improve.

John….I was reluctant to make the initial investment but needed to upgrade my point-and-shoot camera anyway. After perusing numerous underwater photography websites….I’m seeing that “used” UW gear does not depreciate that much. With that said….if I don’t use it, I should be able to recoup most of my investment on the used market.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself.
With a heavy dose of inspiration from you guys…..I have finally put together the U/W outfit. The goal here was to to have a camera / housing with most of the bells and whistles while keeping it in a small package. If it’s big and cumbersome, I don’t think I would use it a lot. I do a lot of backpacking so this setup will hopefully mesh with that activity. Here’s the details:
Canon S90 point and shoot….very impressive camera I must say. Too many features to list but it does have RAW, aperture ring and full manual control.
Fisheye Fix S90 Housing….quality housing machined from solid bar-stock aluminum. All camera functions can be operated via the housing.
Fisheye Fix Dome and fisheye lens (UWL-04)….jury still out on this as I’ve only snapped a few photos but it seems to be a quality piece of equipment.
I hastily pout together a homemade tray to allow for a better grip of the small housing. I may ditch the tray if I see I can handle the housing without it.
I’m headed to Alaska in a few days so it should get a workout. I’ll dump a load when I get back.
Shane….the ARE dealer bolted my cap to the bed. It was very tastefully done. No unsightly clamps. I have an ’08 Tacoma so I would think the same would hold true for your Tundra.
Let’s see some photos of the finished product.
Tyler….don’t forget to allow for bug proof ventilation…..maybe a roof vent with screen. It might be nice if you could attach a large screen with velcro to the rear door area.
On a side note…..the nylon screening material you can get at Home Depot or Lowe’s is great for keeping the skeeters out….but don’t work at all for the tiny “no-seeums”. Don’t ask me how I know this.
There’s a public beach at Henderson State Park in Destin. I’ve caught a few ladyfish and pomps a few years ago from that beach.
Ya, weight restrictions are a hassle (and so are the people at the counter if you get one with an attitude).
I remember a few years ago I flew Delta from ATL to Bozeman with my son. We had fishing/backpacking gear. His duffle weighed 42 pounds and mine weighed 51 pounds. The baggage nazis suggested that I “…just move a pair of jeans to the other bag”. Whatever.
I’m headed to AK in two weeks and am seriously considering wearing my wading boots on board the aircraft. And if they really piss me off….I’ll don my waders as well.
