Great shots! I had an Xpan and sold it a few years back to buy some digital gear. I’m still regretting selling it every time I see something like this! Really unique camera.

    Hey Dave,

I’ve owned a Storm Front pack for a couple of years and highly recommend it. It comes complete with a padded camera bag insert, which is really useful.

In my opinion there’s two things you should look for in a fishing camera bag: To have easy access to the camera; and secondly, to be fully waterproof. This bag wins on both fronts. I usually carry a DSLR with lens and speedlight attached. I also carry a spare lens and a few other bits and pieces. When I need the camera, everything’s ready to start shooting… no attaching the flash while dealing with a lively fish or standing precariously knee deep in fast water.

It’s also been used in some severe storms in Chrismas Island and PNG and has been dropped overboard my kayak, without any leaks.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers

I use the Patagonia Stormfront backpack. It’s not cheap, but either is the gear it protects! It comes with a divider inside, ideal for a camera. The best thing is I can have my camera with flash rigged and ready to go inside the pack. This way I’m not attaching a flash or getting the camera ready when things are rushed. I wore it through a couple days of seriously heavy rain at Christmas Island and it remained completely dry inside. It now goes everywhere with me.

I also use one of the Ortlieb camera bags. these are great and reliable, but there’s no room for extra gear.

    Hi Phil,

I don’t have any didymo photos, although I do have a series of didymo cleaning station shots. These shots were a good way to prove our gear was clean when coming home through Australian customs.

Reading a book from a Kindle or Ipad doesn’t really appeal to me, unless, as Morsie said, it offers something different like video sequences.

Magazines and newspapers on the other hand look really impressive on these readers and offer something completely different from the original magazine or newspaper format.

I guess from an author’s point of view the ability to sell a book online, instantly, is a real bonus!

Yep, it fits straight into the hot shoe and is powered by a 9volt battery.

I’m pretty sure there’s an optional “dead cat” which further eliminates wind noise, but even without it, the sound is surprisingly good.

    Hey Morsie,

I use the Rode VideoMic on my 5D M11. It works really well, cuts out a lot of wind noise and is very lightweight. They’re fairly cheap to buy too. I used mine to interview someone on a boat last week in strong wind. The sound turned out surprisingly well for such a simple, easy to use device.

On another note, this is my first post here. Zach does a great job with website and forum!

    Cheers
