Put me down for the TFO Pro I started using one last week for pike and bass and man that thing can handle any fly and casts real nice…hard to believe it is $140

Matt I used 3/0 Danville mono cord

in reply to: Deer Hair #55150

Ok once you have read and seen pictures or vid on how it is done here are some hints I have found helpful. My spinning and stacking really stunk (and ain’t pro yet) but they helped.

Use long deer hair the majority of hair on the market is Texan and well they don’t have winter

Haven’t tried these yet but they year is young. BUt they are too big to be midges so fry they stay as.

The Damsel above has so far proven to be a good stillwater trout fly but when soakeda and on active retrive it flipped because of those glass dumbell eyes.

So I do it now with the eyes under and a keel of lead as well.

    Nothing is flipping this over.

As well as the typical floating gomphus I tied the above in brown for a sinking version. Not a true gomphus w/o the hour glass shape but effective nonetheless

For sure they are not very trouty but I would say the water is ‘warm’ for about 1-2 months of the year.

The ‘nymphs’ with the dumbell eyes are supposed to be large eyed/egg sac fry/

I don’t but should have a rod rack
    tying station.

I save my room mojo for something else.

I’d bring a 10 wt. with a WFF if you have one and some wire.

Common misconception is that you need a wire leader with wallys. Their teeth do not interlock and I have never had a bit off from one.

The case gets more complicated in multi species water and your hard tied/bought creations get nipped off by some hammerhandle snot rocket.

try it with a different host ???

in reply to: Walleye on the Fly? #11488

We do it here all the time. But if night fishing the walleyes may be shallow.

A full sink tip with a nuetral bouyancy minnow pattern can let you do somethin gear dudes can’t …leave the thing in their window.

What is up with photo bucket?

in reply to: Fly Photography Setup #60348

The Bottom clouser/CC was ‘meant’ to be a carp/dredging fly.

But it seemed to do better as a freshwater drum and jumbo perch fly.

    Go figure.

in reply to: Fly Photography Setup #60346

I am working with 2 sticks rubbing them together photography wise but my fly pics are meant merely to ‘get the word out’ 🙂

so I have spent ‘some’ time getting the photos clearer but have not (at this point) made it my life’s work.

Basically two flouro lights with 3 mirrors at various angles.

Not great but gets the point across.

in reply to: Quick Poll: How many have/would fish for carp? #10820

    here is a re-run 😉

Carp ewwwwwwwwww hard fighting, none are small, highly selective fish…who wants that?

in reply to: Like yo ‘new’ guy here. #10818

Not as bad as previous years weather wise

might actually be fishing in March

in reply to: Rate your Rods #10795

well you all will pardon my ‘cheap rods’

    2wt Pacific bay kit 6½’

I have no idea as i have not put the finish on cast or fished it

    4wt Loomis 7½’.

Nice rod the handle is a little small for my hand but the thing loads nice for its size.

5 wt Fenwick eagle gt 9′

‘ok’ but my wife should have spent the same money on a TFO but the guy in the little corner of the bait shop that passes as a ffing area pimps everything except TFO and she went with the fenwick cause I love my 8wt so

    5/6 359 8½’ south bend bamboo

I love this thing but it is my 1st boo so I have no analog. I re did the wraps on it and will fish it hard so I can do it again and better 😉 A great smallmouth rod

    6 wt Fenwick st 905 8′ (was 9′ 5wt but accidents happen)

Solid rod of an older vintage fenwick. I just re built it to make it an 8′ rod so I do not at this time how she casts. but it was great as a 5wt

    7/8 reddinton redfly 11′ spey

    Winter aquisistion

    8wt Fenwick st 908

This is the rod that really suits me and I wish all my rods felt this nice again an older vintage fenwick

9/10 Reddinton red fly 14′ spey

My first spey so again no analog I can say this though…never needed taping.
