I have seen some voodoo magic in the studio with the following tricks (not my own, just observation). Download an image from iStock (or shoot yourself) some crinkled paper or wavy lines. Then take your image and carefully mask off the faces and save as an alpha channel. Then load the alpha channel and fill with the crinkled paper or wavy line image and set the blend mode to overlay or soft light or whatever looks good. then carefully paint in black at 10-30% to bring in the underlying facial features. Then do a shift-option-command new layer command and work on that as a new layer. Bring up the liquify tool and with a very small brush add in wrinkles and wavy lines and droop the lips and eyes. After that you can hit the image with filters like Topaz to enhance details and wrinkles. Finally, turn the hair white by creating a black/white copy and masking the hair and decreasing the opacity to effect.

UV or blacklight can be tricky lighting. The key is to employ exposure bracketing, typically at least 5 brackets with 2 underexposed and 2 overexposed. Then merge to HDR for a final image. It requires a bit of Photoshop trickery to mask in the black light effect – generally you want only a hint of the effect. I have found that it works best with dark images and very dark background.

Travel lately is catch-is as catch-can. There are no rules anymore – it’s a free for all. Just take your stuff with you, be nice and polite, and hope for the best. It generally works out.
BTW, United is not currently charging for carry on luggage, so you should be o.k. on that one.
A MBP 2.4ghz will handle most any editing software. iMovie will be a good software in general and should be all you need to do general editing like for YouTube, Family Trips, Tutorials, or even some modest advanced stuff. The key will be to increase your RAM as much as possible (minimum of 2gb but 4-8gb is much more desirable).
My backup Mac is a MBP 2.4ghz with only 2gb RAM (basically same computer as yours) and it runs iMovie fine but is slow as molasses when it comes to rendering.
Hare’s ear nymphs – size 14-18, in tan, black, green. It’s a great pattern and should be in everyone’s nymph box. I think people forget how effective this fly can be – and tying a few dozen will hone the general tying skills.

Red tinsel/wire midge larva;)If you want a good nymph pattern for the local tailwater (i.e. the Hootch), there is one that reigns supreme – Kyle’s Copperhead – invented by Kyle Burrell. Here is a link to the recipe and instructions. This is now my go-to nymph. Use a gold beed instead of copper.
