MemberSweet photos and trip Tim…. I’m making plans for next year hopefully??
Looking at these makes the wait even harder 🙂Mike Wilkinson
MemberHad trouble getting the site to load for a while… I have been playing with UV clear as seen on the back of some of these bombs…
Playing with a whitebait pattern… didn’t get to use it this last weekend as a big slip has closed the road to the coast.
A mate took a few the week earlier and got a couple of sea runners…Mike Wilkinson

MemberThanks Zach, the top flies are just a variation of a ‘Simon’s Ugly’… 2x 3.5mm tungsten beads locked in with 4-5 turns of 0.25 lead and wire body. Great fly to get down deep quick with a smaller natural fly for a tail works great, gets eaten a lot on it’s own too!
The photo’s were just on the tying desk, a last minute thought… I will play with a neutral back ground next time. I was just reading the post about shooting studio stuff and making it float… so much to learn and try!Mike Wilkinson
MemberI thought I would have smashed out the project over winter… didn’t do the tying I normally would.
Busy life and mild weather had me doing other things… I finally got a few more tied.
Poor photos’ and I discovered a spot in the lens of my PS camera  >:(
Have to set up the shot to one corner to try and crop it out….
Here’s a couple from the latest batch…

MemberBeen no emergers getting tied at the moment, got some orders to tie and been playing around tweaking a couple of favorite flies for the lake… added a chenille peeking head on a couple of caddis nymphs…

Mike Wilkinson
MemberThanks Guys… must get into the next section collar hackle and heel collar emergers. It ha sheen a good way to learn different tying techniques and options for other patterns.
Mike Wilkinson
MemberI have done the paraloop section of the book, only a half dozen patterns… this is probably my favorite…

Mike Wilkinson
MemberLooks good nice SBS too… the Gallows is the key to making these easy.
Mike Wilkinson
MemberI can think of a couple Simon
Mike Wilkinson
MemberJust finished the parasol/ umbrella series so on to the paraloop emergers next…
It’s funny how you enjoy tying certain style of flies over others…. a couple from the last batch…

MemberHa ha… no need to rub it in, it’s been around -7 deg celsius and warms up to around 2-3 deg celsius during the days this week. Just got acquired a Sage XP 4 weight so might brave the cold just to cast it at least
Mike Wilkinson
MemberIt’s superfine dry fly dubbing from a dispenser? I don’t remember the brand… it’s good stuff to dub a nice fine body.
Mike Wilkinson
MemberThanks, I have a preference to fish emergers so when
Mike Wilkinson
MemberThanks. I’m working my way through the book “Tying Emergers” by Jim Schollmeyer and Ted Leeson. I have been keeping track as I go on my blog, just over a third of the way through the book now.

A couple more from the last batch, I haven’t given myself any timelines

MemberI’m just back from 4 days fishing the mayfly hatches on the Mataura in Southland… the hatches were a little light but a wee CDC dun did the business. There was a day when the normal parachute profile was ignored but a CDC compara dun was accepted. I like CDC in still slow waters for that gentle movement.
Mike Wilkinson
MemberThe hatches never really came on for my trip south… hoping when I go down for the last week in April, the hatches will be in full swing. The flies all caught fish just had to tie few more nymphs while there.
I have been back at the vice to continue my project, this is probably my favorite from the latest batch…

You can see the rest on my blog…

Mike Wilkinson
MemberThanks Tim, it’s always a good time, Southland in April… mostly for catching up with good mates!
