Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberDid any one Google Earth the CoOrdinates??? And yes, fishing is very seldom about the fish… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberJeff, how long are you going to be in Cape Town, because if you enjoy small stream fishing, then you are in for a real treat? Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberAh, the beauty of a global community… I hope you know what you are in for… said to be the Garden of Eden, probably the prettiest part of the world I know… how long are you planning your trip?? I can’t say you are under gunned, the 7w should do the trick nicely, there might be one or two spots where you might need a bit more power, but then there are others where a 9w I way too much stick, nice middle of the road stick… I would load that with an intermediate Striped Bass Taper and 200 yards of backing… Flies…
 Cluosers
 Mud Charlie’s
 Crazy Charlie’s
 Poppers
 Candy’sYou’r going to find…
 Shad
 Garrick
 Springer
 Grunter
 Cob
Bull MulletThat should do the trick nicely… I will look up Anthony Kruger’s mail address and PM you, he is an expert on the region, and owns a fly shop in PE, which also happens to be the town I grew up in… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberI have posted it already… if I remember correctly they were all taken on my E500… Check out http://www.itinerantangler.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1185519498 Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberSome times you have to pay to enjoy yourself no matter what the size. Agreed, quality sticks make fish an experience… sometimes it’s not about the fish, it’s about the fishing… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberIn response to a PM… Yellow fish are in no way related to Carp, they are a species to their own, and one of the oldest on the world. There is even a relative in India, and if you know anything about continental drift you will understand how ancient the species is. There are 9 species in South Africa and 11 in total. They range from maximum size from 2Kg’s to 20Kg’s. The Large Mouth is the granddaddy of the lot, attaining up to 20Kg’s. I have attached a picture of a relatively small, probably a male, specimen. They are restricted to River system and we are trying our best to restrict their movements, as they are quite susceptible to cross breeding. The introduction of alien species has devastated their populations, with Large and Small Mouth Bass being the main culprits. (Bloody Foreigners’) 🙂 🙂 Although trout have been in the country for over 100 years, their impact is limited, as their environmental needs are completely different. Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberBut, on the upside, this is my local river… MMmmm… now that’s worth a bucket of gold… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMembercrescent wrench is a “shifting spanner” That had me for a second… I have a few more for you, but if you don’t get it first time, just ask.. Thanks Scott, I really like the site Zach has got some really good stuff on it. Just listened to the interview with the Scott CEO. Awesome… Zach, any way you can get the file size down, we here in darkest Africa have bandwidth problems… my ADSL connection is only 256, with a cap at 2 gig, and yes I hit it every month, right now I’m over my limit… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberI am also new to the forum, unfortunately, I don’t live in Telluride, but how I would love to… I am in Johannesburg, South Africa, and even though you guys mainly talk about your neck of the woods, I really enjoy reading your posts. I am a small stream fanatic and have been fishing since the early ’90, and guiding over the last couple of years. I don’t have trout 5 minutes down the road, but I can stocky bash 3 hours away, but to get to my little piece of heaven, I need to drive for 8 hours… however, we are lucky enough to have an incredible array of indigenous species known as Yellow Fish, there are 9 variants, each having their own unique characters and environments. Enough about me, I am sure I will be imputing a little South African here and there… Jay – you have to be kidding me that a 2 bed, 1 bathroom, 557 sq foot shack is going for 1.4m$, hell that’s like, I can’t explain… hell that’s a bucket of money for a tiny garage??? http://www.tellurideproperties.com/18707 Small Mouth Yellow Fish Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberLooks Like it’s a “hard life”, love the pics… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberGreat work, you gotto love digital lifting… I have despecled a few pics, but I cant do what you just did… Congrats Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberThanks Zack, that is the town of Rhodes, the centre of the Wild Trout Associations water… although those photos are not fishing photos per say, it is the ambiance of the village that does it for me. And considering that there are 350km’s of fishable streams within an hours drive… co-ordinats…
30 47 47.00 S Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberYes, I have the E500, and the P770. I really like the E500, but the E510 has some really cuel features… I would say GO FOR IT. I have only heard good things from it, as a mate in the office has it… I have seen some of his fee-hand zooming, and the Image Stabilizer is absolutely brilliant. The preview function is great for composition… If I could I would have waited a month or 2 to get the 510, but it was a gift, etc… As far as the other technical specs, they has sorted out the write speed and the USB speeds, so it is far more user friendly than my model… I will post a photo essay soon… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberInteresting Process… good to see your thinking about it, before just doing it. 😀 Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberNow we’re hi-jacking this thread, but, yes its close… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberHi Zack I am in South Africa; those pics are from our Small Stream Mecca, the village of Rhodes.

I have a Photo Essay from the town, that I will post later… it would be great to get some feed back on it.Cheers
Mike Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberMan that is great… Love those pics. Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberI have the Olympus 770, and love it… however, it has a few downfalls, exactly as the Pantax has… I think you need to find a shop that sell both, and spend an hour or 2 checking them out. There is nothing like playing with them for an hour… Pros
 – Rugged Design
 – Great Shooting Modes
 – Fast Memory Writing
 – Long Battery Life
 – Long Movie Lengths
 – Great Camera Pouch, really great…
 – Awesome Macro ModesCons
 – Shutter Lag
 – Lenses PositioningBut as I say, you need to play with both before you choose… Mike McKeownMember Mike McKeownMemberMy First post on this forum… and this thread was the reason I created a user and will add my 2 cents every now and then… I recently acquired a 6’ 2W F Series (the original)… I think will compliment my Sage 00 and my Scott 3W G 7’7(original). I think I am set for my small stream expeditions. I have a little Lochmore reel on it, loaded with XPS DT and a spare spool loaded with a Triangle Taper on it. Originally I bought a Quite taper for it, as I love it on my twin (Sage 00), however I found that the line/rod combo could not turn the leader over. So a mate and I grabbed as many used lines as we could and spent an afternoon testing lines. Eventually settling on a XPS WF, however the Triangle taper really worked the rod well, so I bought the XPS DT as the primary line and the Triangle will be kept in the wings, for the windier days. Great thread and even better pics, I have attached 2 pics, but can’t decide where she will get her first run…
