MemberI’ve posted this on most of the fly boards I hang out on. You may have seen it already.
Some of you know I sold my business and took the summer off to become a trout bum. Don’t know what I’m going to do in mid October when the snow flies here and I have to go back home to Tennessee. I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I landed at this place in southwestern Montana. I”ve acquired my guide license and I am the assistant fly shop manager here. I’m calling it my temporary working retirement. The pay sucks, but location and the perks are unbelievable!! I am a very, thankful, man. Just thought you might like to see where I’m hanging my hat these days.

The lodge where I work. The fly shop is on the far left end. Got the little dormer window above it.

The Great Room in the lodge.

Looking from the bar, through the library, into the great room

Looking from the Great Room, throught the library, to the bar.

When you walk in the front door of the lodge, turn left just before you step into the Great room and walk down the long hall passing the library and the bar and you walk right into the fly shop.

This is the back door of the fly shop. Opens out onto the stone patio above the creek.

From the stone patio looking toward the steps down to the creek.

At the bottom of the steps, this nice little pool/pocket awaits your fly.

Where you can find brookies, rainbows, cutties, and tons of these guys.

And after you’ve worn your arm out casting and catching, come back up to the bar for one of these. I need to re-stage this shot with a TroutSlayer beer, but this happened to be the one I was drinking that afternoon.

Bonus Shot-They have a nice herd of Texas Longhorns on the ranch. I have named this little bull Sir Valentine, because as you can see, he wears his heart on his head, not on his sleeve.

Yep, Moosedog hooked me up. The pay sucks but the perks are out of this world.
Thanks for having the classified setion here, Zach. It has worked out well for both Joel and I. Your website is making the world a smaller place.

MemberGreat looking place. Ok I’ll ask where, name of the place.
Wish we could move our shop into a setting like that LOL.
Cinderblock on a highway doesn’t compete with that LOl
But the river is less than a mileAnd we will have a new building come fall.
Cheers

The Itinerant AnglerHey Steve (from Taz) –
Didn’t recognize you in your new moniker (which is one reason full names are greatly preferred here, hint hint).
Nice to see you landed at Mountain River; I think they had a great set of products on offer but to be honest I felt the shop lacked personality each time I went in there.

MemberHey Zach _ I get the hint. Can I change my nick or do I have to re-up
See Im such a shy retiring type LOL
Yeh Mt River is a great place. Hope we can make it a better shop, more fun place to come in hang out, shop online etc. You probably got the first of our Mountain River Journal’s today _ carrying over that weekly email-magazine-fishing report.
Here at the shop we all love those old timey buildings in Cotter too, but it was decided to stick with our highway frontage, for easier access for everyone heading to and from Bull Norfolk. We have 2600 sq feet and moving to 4000 _ modern strip mall type. Move in 2-3 months. Its going to be a classy fitout tho, with lots of wood, and space to display stuff, and for people to move around. HUGE fly selection. Still have familiar features, and of course the crew.
I know what you mean about personality _ but the funny thing is, since Ive been around people are laughing a bit more, a bit more spark. I think they had forgotten fly fishing is supposed to be fun and you can laugh, just about everyone there has a great sense of humor _ so Im discovering too.
Next time your down come in and hang out, play with some rods etc.
Cheers

MemberWhen I talk to high school students or undergrads about their “careers” I say there are two things that make a happy life – a job that you love and a really comfortable bed, because those places are where you’ll be spending most of your time
