I am Scott man, and that is a rare find, but unlike the rest of the crowed trying to swine you out of a couple of bucks, I think you need to bring it to my place for a proper evaluation and a little fish… then I shall have to take you to some really great spots to fish it… then…

From the look of where the writing is, and its style, it seems to be from around the mid, to late 90’s and if I remember it was a rod that fitted between the Alpha (SaS) and the STS, the Alpha (SaS) being an entry level rod, with a medium action, I have a jem of a 5w, 8’6”, and the STS was a supper fast premium rod, the look of your stick put it into the premium range, and my thoughts are you got a medium fast beauty… great find, if you ever need to part with it, please may I be first on the list???

I will check with my local importer, he keeps all the catalogs, I am sure I will find in his office…

PS, and may be this should be under the web development section, but…

What equipment are you using, for all of it, hardware for the stream side essays, hardware for the PC recordings, software for editing… etc…

I think they are great, and we have lined up some South African “icons” to do something similar for our site, I will let you know when our first is done, if we ever get it right… I don’t want to compromise on quality…

If you don’t want to give away the trade secrete, that cool too…

There are two reasons you by quality products.

    1. Because they are quality.

    2. Because they fix their quality products.

    You just prooved the point.

Being a small stream fanatic, I would like to add a few cents… probably only 2, but here goes…

Understand that supper light weight rods are very specialized and that there applications are dominated by the prevailing conditions. A slight down stream breeze can ruin an afternoons fishing if you are under gunned and battling to turn over a leader with a bushy dry on the end of it. Or if you are trying to throw a weighted nymph on a dry fly rig.

If you are only going to have one stick for the small stream stuff, choose a stick that will offer you the best all round solution.

I am luck to have been mentored by a local small stream guide and between the 2 of us we have built up a collection of rods that suite almost all our conditions. From quick action 3w’s to supper light 000w Sages…

I would go with a 2w, either a Scott G2, or a Thomas and Thomas LPS, both in the 8’ range. Although shorter rods seem to be a great idea for small streams, we have been going back to the 7’6” to 8’ sticks, as they offer better line control, especially aerial mends, roll casting, bow & arrow and steeple casts. I know that there is a lot more to it, and you would think that a 6’6” rod would be far better, but they require more skill, more false casts, and you really have to time your mends. There is a time and place for a shortie, but as a semi-general purpose light rod, I would rather grip the rod up the blank to shorten it when needed.

Sorry guys, but I don’t believe that a fiberglass rod, as a first small stream rod is not the best idea, make no mistake they are awesome rods, but medium/slow to progressive action is probably the right way to.

    Intresting…

I read somewhere else that a camera should not be dried out after a dunk, rather keep it moist and get it to a profesional fast…

    But I could be wrong.

Firstly, you have some great photos there.

Secondly, you come all this way to Johannesburg, and don’t let me take you out to catch some Yellow Fish????

    Large Mouth Yellow Fish

    Small Mouth Yellow Fish

Thirdly, I am not a hunter and I cannot comment on the hunts, but I can comment on the process…

Southern Africa is an intense area of the world, while we have some of the most beautiful landscapes and incredibly beautiful animals, we have our problems. Southern Africa has the highs AID’s rate in the world, there are tyrants running our neighboring countries and crime is out of control, including the highest murder and rape stats globally!!

Having said that, tourism is a way to build our economy, hunting and hunters bring revenue to the poorest of the poor, but it really needs to managed better. Currently the rich are raping it and the poor are getting shafted, again…

Anyway, I think I am just pissed that I missed you…

I have heard that they are going to conform to the BASS Masters rules, I don’t know what the rules are, but there is a length constraint… so they have to be 7’6 ?? so now those guys can fish with fly’s for their bass, it will be interesting to see if any do…

If you could point me at that board, I would love to read the tread.

Yes…I did Google Earth the coordinates.

How many fly shops/outfitters can that location sustain!  At least 8 (if not more) outfitters came up on Google Earth.

I find that an amazing amount considering the location.

    What gives?

    Hi Seafood

That cant be rite… the town has 1 Hotel, 2 Guest Lodges, and hole bunch of holiday houses…

Please would you post a screen shot??
