I have to agree, those old Winston’s are the bomb…
Don’t forget about the Sage 000wt, to 0wt… I have been fishing my 00wt for a couple of seasons now, and it is my go to stick… I can toss 14 bead heads with it, right the way to 26 dry’s, it is not a gimmick, they are serious fishing tools, I have landed a 19″ river run Bow, it gave me a good rev, but I never felt pressured… and everyone who throws it, now understands that it is a real fishing machine…
Kevin, you’re starting to sound like a tackle junkie, I like it… But why don’t you start putting a little away for a trip down here…
Decent Accommodation, dinner, bed, breakfast and lunch $50 per day, $12 rod fee, per day and I will guide you for free… 10 days fishing for $600, lets call it $1000, with my bar tab, and we are square, lets add $200 for transport, all in, with goodies to take back to the wife and kids, $1500, an I am probably 20% too high…
The big expense is getting here…

This little anecdote is for all the guides on this message board…..
I had an opportunity to fish with a well-known guide in Alaska in ’06. I was sharing his boat with a close friend of mine that has fished with this guide previously. There was one thing on that trip that really impressed me as a customer. The guide had obviously maintained a very detailed journal of my friends previous trips with him. While on the water the guide would make statements like:
“This run is where you caught that big rainbow in ’04 isn’t it?”
“I seem to remember you like to fish for pike?” Wanna give ’em a shot this afternoon?”
I hope it doesn’t rain like it did last time we fished together.”
“Are you still living in Atlanta?”
As I said…that really impressed me. I guess what I’m saying is this tactic might be that little extra that keeps customers coming back year after year along with referrals.
Just sayin.
I guided a guy recently, who I guided about 4 years ago, I still remembered what his favorite fly was, and by the time he had his boots laced, it was tied to his tippet… that was the last time he questioned me all day, I pointed at a spot, he put the fly on it and a fish rose, most times…
Hell did we get drunk that night, but it is in Rhodes, you don’t get a hang over at that altitude and because the air and water is so pure… and the only time you drive is to get to the fishing…
I am not a pro guide, and there is a big whoha about the only guide school in the country, but I have a few guys who like calling me for a fish now and then… I will gladly take any visitors from IA to some special fishing spots…
Yep, that is a kangaroo. I got that hat in Australia two years ago. It is a waterproof waxed hat and the best fishing hat I own. (IA hat will be excluded from comparison I’m sure).

PS – Botswana: I’m looking at you! Hahahah. I bet our foreign visitors can easily pick themselves out on this map.

Botswana is next door, but that placemark is on Johannesburg, South Africa…Right I’m off to get me a Smallmouth Yellowfish, the record is in the 6kg range and I can regularly get 5kg fish… now where did I leave that gill net…

I understand what you are talking about, I am getting responses that are helping me understand what I am doing with a camera, and hopefully others are learning too…
As I said to Kevin, I doubt that I would post this question on any other board, this is a great community and people offer good advice and critique…
3. I have one with the guy lying in the grass, in focus, I thought the same that the story lies in the spotter and not the fisher…
5. I have one with the angler in focus, but it doesn’t tell as good a story, it is kind of too exact, like it was staged…
7. I had my 400mm at its full zoom, and was hidden in the trees, I agree that a fill in flash would have got much better results, but it was not to be… that was taken free-hand… I was stoked to see it sharp…
Once again thank you to the great input so far… I know I am still learning…

You know I am South African, when we play sport, I support South Africa, and anyone playing against the Ausies…UUmmm, and I feel a little embarased I didn’t say this in the previous post :-[, there are some really good looking pictures in there.
Firstly, “what bent gutter?”, I didnt notic half the thins you fixed, but now that you have shown them to us, WOW… I really did not see that the buildings where not straight, but once you had fixed it, it made a huge difference to the pic… whats that called, Venting???
Secondly, you’re pretty good… I really like the changes you made to the sky and the colors on the couches works very well.
Thirdly, get that pic I posted of the guy smilling while landing a fish, and make me famous…
It is really difficult to stop the dowloading of pics, there are ways around everything… even going as far as screen dumps…
Thanks guys, these are really helping, and having them come from people I respect is even better…
